Make a Mark

It’s time for new challenge at Try it on Tuesday so for the next two weeks we are asking you to Make a Mark.

This could be abstract patterns, grids, circles, squares, chevrons etc. If you pop over to our blog, you’ll find some wonderful inspiration from my Design Teamies too!

My art journal page today is covered with bright coloured lines, circles, hexagons, diamonds, crosses and squares – it was a fun and easy page to make (grin!).

I started by covering the page using different shaped stencils and Distress Inks, this included: a Circle Line stencil using Picked Raspberry ink; a Honeycomb stencil from using Peacock Feathers; a circle stencil using Spiced Marmalade; a Vintage Diamond stencil using Mustard Seed; a cross/kisses stencil using Mowed Lawn; and finally a Mini Squares stencil using Seedless Preserves ink. I outlined each of the individual stencilled shapes using a black Uni Pin marker, which took quite a while. Then I stencilled the “Make a Mark” wording using an old alphabet stencil from school and a black Sharpie marker, outlining them with a white Uni Posca paint pen and a black Uni Pin marker and colouring the letters quite a few times to intensify the black so they popped out from the page more. To finish, I doodled a few crosses/kisses around the edge of the page with the black Sharpie marker.

As T Stands for Tuesday I’m sharing this poster that we saw when we were out and about in Maine last year, I thought of it because of the abstract design which ties nicely with the Make a Mark theme (grin!). This cuppa could be any hot drink, maybe tea or coffee depending on your preference – Happy T Day everyone!

  3. I love the geometric shapes and marks, it is a brilliant and colourful page Jo.
The poster looks great, I wonder what it was advertising. It would have to be tea for me, but perhaps its coffee.
    Happy T day wishes Jo.

  4. Somehow when I was admiring this really colorful and fun entry, I forgot that “Xs” are also kisses. This was a great entry, and I love the very abstract marks you made on your journal page. Great use of all those stencils you pulled out to make this a marvelous entry.

I love the poster. It’s coffee for me, but I’m sure you knew that (grin)! Thanks for sharing your beautiful journal page and the poster with us for T this Tuesday. Sorry I am late visiting, but I didn’t want to be late to the courthouse today.

  8. Hey dear Jo, your mark page looks very good. It must have been alot of work to border all the motifs. The poster with coffee cup looks very good and makes me feel longing for coffee.;)
Now I will try to make a page for this theme. Hope you and your hubby feel fine. Here in Germany it becomes warmer now and we can start the garden season. I love to stay outdoors between all the wonderful trees and plants. Your garden looks also very nice.
Big Hugs and have a great weekend.
