Captured Moments

Over at Try it on Tuesday our new theme for the next two weeks is Stencil, Die Cuts or Both. I decided to have some fun and use both of these to create my Captured Moments art journal page!

I hope you will join in the fun too and for further inspiration why not check out the wonderful creations of my fellow Design Team over at Try it on Tuesday!

To start I lightly rubbed an ink pad of Hickory Smoke Distress Ink vertically down the page and spritzed it with water to give a washed out effect. For my stencils I chose a fleur-de-lis design which I applied using Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and a blending tool and also a Shabby Diamond stencil using Shabby Shutters Distress Ink, again using a blending tool. I also stamped a Script stamp by Kaisercraft using Ground Espresso Distress Ink. I left quite a lot of white space in my background to showcase some lovely fabric and papers that I added next. So with the background complete, I added a strip of fabric to the page using a UHU glue pen. Then I selected a Spellbinders die cut set and used my Big Shot machine to cut out some circular shapes from the same fabric which I had backed with card, and I also die cut some dark brown, pink dotted and grey-brown patterned papers. I edged all the paper pieces with a Dark Sepia Faber-Castell Big Brush marker and arranged them on the page using a UHU Stic and then I layered the fabric die cut pieces on top. I added some pearl embellishments and a circular image of a pretty lady which is a sticker from Graphic 45. To finish, I added two lace butterflies which are stuck in place using a UHU glue pen, some pearls and a “Captured Moments” die cut using double-sided foam tape.

This page reminds me of a beautiful chandelier glass lamp that we saw at our local auction room Gerrards, and I think the pretty lady on my art journal page may have owned one like this. I was very tempted to purchase it myself but in the end refrained as pink really doesn’t match any of the rooms in our house.

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m also sharing this array of pretty china teacups which were also for sale at the auction rooms. As I write this post I’m thinking that I shouldn’t go to the auction rooms so often, it’s far too tempting, don’t you think (grin!). Wishing you all a very Happy T Day!

  1. What a wonderful journal page, spot on for the season as the sun is shining here today, birds chirping and the flowers pointing their little faces towards blue skies.
Look forward to seeing more of natures beauty this month.

  2. Your journal page could be a business card for an antique shop. Captured moments. To me the lady image you used looks like a bride. Bet she got that beautiful lamp for a wedding gift. And she would have a lovely selection of china tea cups to entertain her friends at tea. I think I would have found it difficult to pass by the tea cups at the auction house, especially the dark blue and white one in the lower left corner. Happy T Day!

    • Thanks so much! You are right she does look like a bride and it’s lovely to think that she received the lamp as a wedding gift 😁. The teacups are beautiful, aren’t they and I think I would have had to sit on my hands when the bidding started …lol 😉. Happy T Day! J 😊 x

  3. Wow Jo. You really caught the feel of those gorgeous tea cups with your journal page. I like the little bits of lace- the fact that the lace is like butterflies really adds some lightness. 🙂 I am looking forward to your new theme at AJJ too. Hope you are having a wonderful day. Hugs-Erika

  4. Such a lovely page. It seems to capture the auction experience you had too. I would have absolutely no place to put that lamp but I might have bid on it at auction anyhow. That’s how I end up with things stored in boxes, haha.

  5. Your art page is just lovely-even more so after seeing your inspiration I love the lamp-very unique I have learned if I love something and can afford it I grab it as i usually regret it later if I don’t. for myself I don’t worry all that much about color matching as I can usually find a spot-but that’s me.
what a wonderful assortment of tea cups-would be hard to choose.
My friend Barbara surprised me and photo shopped my bison photo-wow what a difference I need to check that out. Happy T Day Kathy

  9. I adore this beautiful spread, and I adore the idea it fits both TioT’s theme and your hosting theme at Art Journal Journey. Vintage never had it so good. It’s a wonderful page, and if we didn’t know it specifically featured stencils and die cuts, I would never have guessed. You camouflaged it perfectly.

That’s a lovely lamp, but like you, I am color driven, and each room in my house has a definite primary color. And even though most of my furniture is from the 1880s to 1900, that lamp is a bit too syrupy and ornate for me. The tea cups and saucers, on the other hand, are fabulous. If only I had a place to display beauties like that.

Thanks for sharing your fabulous journal page, which included your theme at Art Journal Journey (oh those fantastic butterflies) along with the gorgeous tea cups and saucers with us for T this Tuesday. I’m loving these photos today.

  11. What a wonderful journal page. I love that strip of fabric. That just made it.
It’s good that we haven’t any auction houses near us. I’d be there buying stuff I don’t have room for. I must admit that lamp is gorgeous. Too refined for me though. It would fit in a ladies’ boudoir I imagine (belonging to the pretty lady in your page).
    Happy T-Day,

  12. Wonderful page, Jo. I saw it featured at TIOT earlier today. Wow – the DT outdid itself this time!

The tea cups and saucers at the auction are lovely. I would admire them, but not be tempted since I don’t drink tea (grin).

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  13. Such a lovely page, Jo! I especially like the lace butterflies. Also, I absolutely love the lamp with pink. I wouldn’t have cared about the color not matching my decor. I use what I like and call it “eclectic”. 🙂
