Sweet Wishes

It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, which is Oh So Sweet!

I created a page for some very sweet animals who are having a fun, using a Woodland Celebrations Sizzix Thinlits set by Olivia Rose.

I started by stencilling the background using Mowed Lawn and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks to create the clouds and foreground, using a Slimline Sunburst stencil set by Marianne Designs. Then I die cut the bunting and the cute animals with their balloons using the Woodland Celebration Sizzix Thinlits set by Olivia Rose from different coloured Linen Textured cardstock. I layered all the pieces together and stuck them onto the page using a glue tape pen by Crafter’s Companion. The flowers were die cut from the same linen cardstock using a Flowers in Umbrella Sizzix Thinlits set by Olivia Rose. To finish, I added the “Sweet Wishes” wording which was die cut using a Creative Expressions die by Sue Wilson and layered onto a black die cut circle which I decorated with some of the bunting.

Snowy Winter at Art Journal Journey

I am so delighted to be guest hosting Art Journal Journey this month with my Snowy Winter theme.

As winter is here, we’re looking for snow and snowflakes on your pages; this could be linked to a winter scene or even Christmas as it’s now December.

For my page, I started by using a Stencil Template set by Inkylicious for the moon and a Stencil Mask by Marianne Designs for the trees, and painting Seedless Grape Distress Ink like watercolour onto the page. Then I coloured the moon using the Inkylicious Stencil using the same Seedless Grape Ink and then the trees using Pine Needles Distress Ink. Next I used a Cozy Winter Sizzix Thinlits set by Tim Holtz to die cut the snowflakes, adorable bear, branch and woodpecker from some white cardstock and different colours of Tim Holtz Kraft Cardstock – Classic. I die cut some pine needles to add to the branch using a Holiday Greens Sizzix Thinlits set by Tim Holtz and then I layered everything together and stuck them onto the page. I splattered the page with white acrylic paint and to finish, I added the wording “a white Christmas appeared” which was from a Christmas Sticker Book by Tim Holtz.

I hope that you are inspired to join in the fun this month too! I’m really looking forward to visiting you and seeing all your wonderful Snowy Winter creations; please, don’t forget to take a look at the RULES.

Wishing you a very Happy December and Happy Journaling! Hugs Jo x

Believe in Yourself

It’s a new month so we are launching our November challenge today over at the Creative Artiste Challenge Blog, and as always the theme is Anything Mixed Media Goes.

My mixed media page was inspired by the golden colour of the sunsets that we see this time of year; I hope you like it (smile!).

I started by covering the page with Wild Honey, Fossilized Amber and Vintage Photo Distress Ink by smooshing them onto the page using an acrylic block; I did this by stamping the ink pad onto the acrylic black, spritzing with water and then pressing the block onto the page gradually building up the layers of colour. Next I stamped a Hessian stamp by Kaisercraft over the whole page using a VersaMark Watermark ink pad and covered it with Gold Ranger embossing powder. I cut some lace edged ovals from white cardstock using a Basic Shapes die cut set by Marianne Designs and then I arranged them onto the page with some Weathered Garden Chipboard Die-cuts by Simple Stories, a gold frame, two gold banners and a washi tape flower. To finish, I added some small white acrylic hearts.

For more inspiration please check out the amazing creations from our Guest Designer and my fellow Design Team members over at Creative Artiste too. All you need to do is to use three different mediums on your projects to join our mixed media challenge; I hope you are inspired to join us, it would be lovely to see join you there!

November brings golden sunsets looking over the beach where we live, so I was inspired to use golden autumnal colours on this page.

I hope that you’re all staying safe and well! x

Challenges

As well as Creative Artiste , I’m pleased to be joining the following challenges:

Feeling Good

Over at Try it on Tuesday our challenge for the next 2 weeks is I Can Hear Music where we would like your entries to be inspired by a song.

We hope that you’ll join in the fun too and as you can see my song inspiration was “Feeling Good” but please be sure to let us know what song inspired your project if it’s not obvious.

To portray the first lines of the song, I started by sectioning the page into three panels. For the “Birds flying high” panel, I applied Salty Ocean and Speckled Egg Distress Ink using a Slimeline Starburst A4 Mask Stencil by Marianne Designs to create all the clouds. Then I stamped the Scribbly Birds in Flight by Dina Wakley over the top using black Archival Ink and I coloured them using Burnt Sienna and a mixture of black and white Kuretake watercolour paints. For the “Sun in the sky” panel, I used the same Marianne Designs stencil to apply Mustard Seed Distress Ink and I coloured between the sun rays using Salty Ocean Distress Ink. For the “Breeze Driftin’ by” panel, I used the same stencil to create the foreground using Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink and the clouds using the Speckled Egg and Salty Ocean Distress Inks again. The dandelions were stamped using a Molly Blooms Dandelion Clock Flower stamp and coloured using Sap Green and touches of Burnt Sienna, black and white Kuretake watercolours. I separated the panels using black Glitterations outline stickers and to finish, I added the song lyrics which were printed using a Dymo Label maker.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the wonderful song related creations from our Guest Designer and my Design Teamies too (grin!). I hope you are inspired to join our challenge; it would be lovely to see you there!

This “Peeling Good” beer inspired me to create this page as it always has me singing “Feeling Good” when I see it. This beer is a chocolate and orange stout, it’s rich and smooth with a lovely orange flavour and aroma. As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing this beer with the T Gang too and wishing you all a very Happy T Day!

Hope that you’re all staying safe and well!

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Here comes Summer

Over at Try it on Tuesday our challenge for the next 2 weeks is Here comes Summer.

I created a page full of summer sunshine – I hope you’re inspired to join our challenge too; it would be lovely to see you there!

I started by stencilling the sunbursts over the page using a stencil from Marianne Designs and some Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber and Scattered Straw Distress Inks. Next I painted some Salty Ocean Distress Ink in-between each of the sun rays to create blue skies and then I splattered the page with the same blue ink and also some Mustard Seed Distress Ink. I added the black wording to the background using some rub-on transfers and to finish, I layered together some black and yellow paper to frame the beach notecard which reads “Seagulls on the ocean breeze, sandpipers and shimmering seas … the best of days are made of these”.

As you may remember I’m trying to use up leftovers on my pages this year and I’ve been meaning to use this notecard on a page for a while now, it was leftover from a pack that I used to notify people of our change of address when we moved here, by the sea, many years ago (grin!).

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday and take a look you at the wonderful Here comes Summer creations from our Guest Designer and my Design Teamies too (grin!).

Happy Easter

I just couldn’t resist using my new sunburst stencil which was an early birthday present. As my birthday happens to coincide with Easter weekend this year, I used it to create a page to wish you all a Happy Easter!

I started by applying some Mustard Seed Distress Ink through the Slimline Sunburst stencil from Marianne Designs with a blending tool.

As it was a slimline stencil, I then extended the sunburst design across the page using a ruler and some paper to mask out the sunrays. I used a pretty Easter Treat bag to create my Easter scene by cutting out the bunny in the flower pot, another bunny face and a couple of Easter eggs and making some extra grass spikes. I outlined the bunny in the flower pot using a Cold Grey Faber-Castell marker, and then layered the other bunny face over the top so that it was slightly off centre, which made it stand out more from the background. I added some pretty white and yellow ribbon to the flower pot and then I layered all the card elements onto the page using a glue stick and some double-sided tape. The “Happy Easter” wording was created using some alphabet stickers and I added a ribbon bow and single flower to the flower pot which finished the page.

Here’s the Easter Treat Basket that I used to create this page (grin!).

I love this Marianne Designs stencil! It has two gorgeous A4 slimline sunburst designs as well as a foreground and a cloud mask. It’s such a fabulous birthday present – thank you very much dear hubby (grin!).

As it’s Easter soon, my hubby also treated me to this giant chocolate bunny; it’s huge as you can see from the regular sized mug placed by it – wishing you a Happy Easter!

Hope that you’re all staying safe and well!

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.
