Add some texture

Over at Try it on Tuesday our challenge for the next 2 weeks is Add some Texture.

We hope you’ll join in the fun and you can use any medium you like as long as we can see the texture that you created.

The texture on my page was created using a new technique with masking tape; it was easy and simple to achieve, great fun and I love the results.

I started by adding strips of making tape to the page, scrunching the tape up as I stuck it onto the page to create the texture. Then I covered the tape with a layer of Pébéo white gesso and left it to dry.

Next I sprayed water over the top and added drops of Picked Raspberry Distress Ink from a re-inker angling the page and spritzing some more water over the top to disperse the ink. I repeated this process using Abandoned Coral, Spiced Marmalade and Mustard Seed Distress Ink, and then left it over night to dry. Then I dragged a Black Soot Distress Archival Ink pad over the top of the masking tape to highlight the texture.

The flowers and foliage were die cut from some black glittery cardstock using a Wildflowers Thinlits set by Tim Holtz and the “Focus on the good” wording was a Sentiments Label Sticker by Tim Holtz. To finish, I splattered the whole page with black acrylic paint.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the wonderful textured creations from our Guest Designer and my Design Teamies too (grin!). I hope you are inspired to join our challenge; it would be lovely to see you there!

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing our beer, popcorn and cheesy snacks that we enjoyed whilst watching Super Bowl last week – wishing you all a very Happy T Day!

Hope that you’re all staying safe and well!

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. I love your tape idea Jo. That creates some real stand out texture, and it does sound very easy. I think you’ll be seeing some people using that one for sure. And of course, your page came out great and I love those colors. Thanks for also sharing it with us at AJJ for Elizabeth’s challenge. You must have stayed up late to watch the game or recorded it. It was a good game, but of course, not the Pats this year. Many folks don’t like them at all after all those Tom Brady years. Hope this last week of February is treating you well, and happy T day too. Hugs-Erika

  2. “In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts,” said Ralph Waldo Emerson. Here, I see my rejected pieces of masking tape in a work of great creativity.

  3. Great texture with the tape Jo, and I love the pretty colors on your page! Snacks and beer are my hubby’s and son’s choice during any special games. Have a great week, and happy T day!

  4. Love the masking tape border on your page. I would never think to do that. Looks great with the lovely colors that you chose.
Your snack looks yummy. I am so surprised to hear that people around the world watch the Super Bowl. I don’t find it very interesting but I live in a household of boys that love football so I can’t escape it. I just use it as an excuse to make yummy food and invite friends.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  5. I am in AWE of this technique, Jo. I once wrapped masking tape around wire to create a cents sign and a dollar ($) sign for my money altered book, but never once contemplated framing a page with it. Thanks for sharing this incredible technique using Bleubeard’s and my theme at Art Journal Journey.

Great snacks for your super bowl party. I bet they went well with your beer, too. Thanks for sharing these with us for T this week, dear. Sorry to be so late visiting.

  6. As soon as I saw your page I was blown away by the texture. This is a fabulous technique, one I have never seen before but which I want to try straight away. Thanks for letting us know how to do it step by step.
It is a beautiful page, I love the colours you selected to use and they provide a perfect backdrop for the TH black flowers. A really beautiful textured page – off to look at the others in the challenge, but first I need a sip of that beer, it looks so good.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  7. Fabulous page, and what wonderful texture the masking tape gives, especially with the black highlights which go perfectly with the black wildflowers..
Love the journal page in the previous post too.
