X, Y, Z

I was inspired to join a few blog challenges, so my criteria was to create a mixed media page in a vintage style that included type (think – typewriter, printing machines, typewriter keys, fonts, letters and numbers used in different ways – correspondence, calligraphy, illuminated letters, signs etc) – I hope you like it!

I started by stamping Vintage Photo, Brushed Corduroy or Rusty Hinge Distress Ink onto an acrylic block, spritzing with water and then pressing the block onto the page; I did this a number of times applying one of the inks at a time to build up the colour. Next I stamped the typewriter keyboard and typed letters over the background using a Documented stamp set by Tim Holtz and black Archival Ink. Then I applied some Pébéo white gesso over the top using a brayer. The typewriter and type images were from a Poster Pack and the Printers signs from an Ephemera Pack, both by Tim Holtz; they were all edged with a black Faber-Castell big brush marker and then stuck in place using double-sided tape. The roses were rub-on transfers and I added some black paper twine to a small tag which was stuck in place using double-sided foam tape. To finish, I added the “X”, “Y”, “Z” black alphabet domed stickers.

We don’t have any roses in our garden but we do have lots of everlasting sweet peas and as T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing some that I arranged in this pretty teapot which like my page happens to be adorned with a pink rose (grin!).

As you can see our everlasting sweet peas have been flowering so much over the summer that I seem to be running out of vases (double grin!).

Hoping that you all stay safe and well! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

For the sake of brevity I am no longer listing the individual items that I used to create my page, however I’m more than happy to let you know which particular product was used if you contact me via comments below or using the following contact me link.

  1. This is a gorgeous page, Jo, you have combined the various elements so well, it really embodies summer. Love your sweet peas, too, I used to have them in my garden where I lived before. Have a great day, take care, hugs, Valerie

  3. What an absolutely lovely display of sweet peas. It must look wonderful when you walk in your house to see all those pretty colours in those equally pretty vases.
Equally lovely is your page for my theme at AJJ. I love what you have done. The various typewriter elements in the background work so well with those floral rub ons. Love that keyboard diagram you have there – I notice it has a line to split the left hand from the right hand use. What a fabulous image – was that a stamp?
The Poster Pack was just perfect for this theme – love that alphabet one especially, what gorgeous letters at the top. Oh to be able to write like that with a pen.
Thank you for another beautiful page Jo, ,a pleasure to visit.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  4. That is a fantastic keyboard stamp. It caught my eye, and I was wondering if it was part of the original paper or if you added it there. It is really a pretty page and you absolutely captured TYPE for Neet’s challenge. Thanks for joining us at AJJ. And I do like your T day photo this week. Those are the prettiest things I ever saw coming out of a tea pot. I hope you are having a wonderful T day Jo. Hugs-Erika

  7. Jo, your “type” themed vintage AJ page is beautiful and fun. Love the pink bg and all the different images and details (especially the flowers). Speaking of flowers, your flowers are beautiful and arranged so lovely. A teapot is a perfect place to arrange flowers – I will start doing that from now on! Lovely post and happy T-day a bit late. 8. Oh sweet peas. My favorite flower. My grandmother loved them too and she always had some in a vase when they were in season. Back then when I was a child, sweet peas were beautifully fragrant and I wish I could buy some here. I had them growing up my garden shed in England when we lived in Bristol.
Your journal page is beautiful and encompases the ‘type’ theme perfectly.
    Happy belated T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  10. Awesome journal page on TYPE! I’m so loving this challenge theme as I’ve always love type and fonts and lettering. I am drawn to text in art and in fabric. I love how you created the background for your page. You’ve found several fun pieces to illustrate type. I love that you’ve added even more vintage interest to your page with the little tag and the roses. Your sweet peas are SO pretty!

  11. This is a lovely happy piece with the roses and letters and I even spy a butterfly. This is certainly keeping to the “type” thing at AJJ (smile).
I just love the white teapot with its own pink flower. It’s great to have sweet peas at this time of year, isn’t it, and yours look so healthy and beautiful.
I’ve made a note of some of the challenges you’ve entered; they look interesting, thanks for the links.

  12. Oh Jo! Who would have thought that a page about typewriters could look so romantic – it’s perfect for Neet’s AJJ theme! I love sweet peas and so miss them – they are rarely on sale as cut flowers. Love all your full vases. Belated Happy T Day – we’ve been having a really hectic week. Hugs, Chrisx
