Every heart sings a song

I created this shabby chic vintage page in my mini art journal to join a few of my favourite challenges and, with the birds that I included, to also remind you that there is still another week to join our Feathered Friends challenge over at Try it on Tuesday.

For the background, I cut a piece of Kraft Card and ran it through a Tim Holtz Botanicals embossing folder. Then I stuck it onto the page with a panel of wildflower design paper using Liquitex matte gel medium. I applied some Pébéo white gesso over the top of the papers using my finger paying attention to highlight the embossed texture. When dry, I edged the page with a Dark Sepia Faber-Castell Big Brush marker smudging the ink with my finger. Then I added a piece of lace using double-sided tape between the two panels. I used a Garden Greens Thinlits set from Tim Holtz to die cut the foliage from some leftover mixed media paper that I had coloured with Mowed Lawn, Peeled Painted and Pine Needles Distress Inks. They were arranged onto the page with some white flowers and birds which were fussy cut from Kaisercraft stickers. To finish, I added the beautiful quote by “Plato” which was a Kaisercraft sticker that I cut to fit the page and edged with a Dark Sepia Big Brush Faber-Castell marker; it reads “Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart whispers back”.

As T Stands for Tuesday I’m sharing my cuppa with a home-made Skinny Lemon and Blueberry cupcake; they are a very yummy summer treat – wishing you all a Happy T Day!

Hoping that you are all staying safe and well! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. That is a wonderful page in your journal Jo. I love the birds. They look like chickadees but perhaps there is something similar (a great tit maybe?) in England. And your skinny muffin sounds great. Blueberries and lemon are a great combination. And I would like the skinny part too. Thanks for sharing another page at AJJ for Alison’s challenge. And hope your T day is going well. Hugs-Erika

  2. Love the vintage look embossing (and the technique you used) on your mini-journal page along with the lace, birds and beautiful words, Jo. Really pretty!!! The cupcake steals the show though – food always wins with me, and it sounds and looks delightful. Happy T-day!!!!

  3. beautiful journal page Jo. Using the embossing folders is making a big comeback so I should get mine out and make some pretty embossed papers too. Love the folder you used!
    Happy T day!

  4. What a beautiful page. I love that embossed paper. I hadn’t heard this Plato quote before either. It’s a beautiful quote.
Those muffins look delicious. Can I use frozen berries you think? Or should I defrost them first. We can’t get SF flour, but I will find my way around that. They sound very nice, especially with the lemon frosting.

  5. Sorry, Jo. This new keyboard has a key I am not sure about that promptly publishes a post and takes me to a new page. It’s happened several times and usually in the middle of a sentence.

I love how you treated the embossing in the background, and I love the lace. It certainly is one that works quite well for Alison’s theme at Art Journal Journey. Thank you for being so supportive of our blog.

Your lemon blueberry cupcake looks wonderful. Blueberries are in season here, and this looks like something I would be able to make. Maybe minus the frosting, though, because it looks SINFUL!!

Thanks for sharing your journal page, your cupcake, and your tea with us for T this Tuesday, dear friend.

  9. What a lovely page! I do like the embossing and how you highlighted it in white. The border down the side with the lace works perfectly as do the little birds on their branches. Love the words you chose to use too.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  12. Jo, your page is exquisite! (as always!) I love that 3D folder, my favorite, and made even more gorgeous by your shabby touch of gesso. A lovely shabby page and the blues with the kraft is the perfect combination in my opinion! You always wow me! And that blueberry muffin doesn’t look too skinny to me-yum!
