Field Notes

Today’s page celebrates nature and the woodland walks we have been enjoying this summer with our friends; as it’s been so hot we have been walking earlier in the morning so little Ellie, their dog, doesn’t get too hot (grin!).

I started by sticking a piece of Botanical wallpaper over the background using a glue stick and then applying some rub-on transfers around the page which were from a Field Notes Remnant Rubs set by Tim Holtz. I shaded under the tag on the right-hand side of the page using a Cold Grey Faber-Castell marker so it looked 3D and stood out more. Then I added two ephemera butterflies and some specimen labels, and finally the “Field Notes” chipboard wording which were all from Tim Holtz.

As T Stands for Tuesday, today I’m sharing a recipe for a Blueberry Gin Collins that is perfect for summer; we discovered this drink whilst visiting our friends at their lake house in Maine some years ago. Happy T Day everyone!

Hope that you’re all staying safe and well!

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. Gin is a good choice for really cooling summer drinks, and I loved your recipe. I haven’t had any gin at all in ages as we only drank wine during the long months of never going out. Maybe I’ll have some later this summer.

  2. Gorgeous page Jo. I love the woodland, summer garden feel. And your drink sounds perfect for our weather right now. There is nothing better than those little Maine blueberries. And this drink sounds so refreshing. Have a great T day and rest of your week, and also thanks so much for joining us for Mia’s challenge at AJJ. Hugs-Erika

  3. What a pretty page! When it is this hot, woodland walks are so good.
This sounds like a nice cocktail. I have two bottles of gin as I bought an extra one when you published a recipe that needed a bottle of gin. Then I forgot what recipe it was… so I never made it and I forgot what it it was. Can you remember?
    Happy T-Day,

    • Thanks so much! here’s the recipe:

400 g (14oz) Raspberries – or any fruit of your choice, maybe pineapple, blueberry, peach, strawberry, rhubarb
300g (10oz) Granulated Sugar – you can vary this depending on your taste
750 mll (25 US fl oz) Gin – a cheap brand such as supermarket own brand as these are not too flavoured.

Add them all to a Kilner Jar (or similar). You need to ensure the sugar dissolves so make sure you shake the jar throughout the first day, it dissolves pretty quickly. Then put it in a dark place for 4 weeks, I tend to shake the jar every other day to muddle the fruit. It’s tempting to eat the fruit afterwards, perhaps on ice-cream, however, I tried it and it was far too potent! So I ended up forcing it through a sieve to add more flavour to the gin. One last tip – don’t be tempted to do half a recipe like I did as when you start drinking it you’ll find it goes pretty fast (grin!). Hugs, Jo x

  4. Your journal page is stunning. I see I’m not the only person who used a wallpaper sample lately. Yours is simply stunning, though. I love the idea of Field Notes, too. Thanks for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey using Mia’s theme.

Your drink recipe is wonderful. I’ve never had gin, or even have a clue what it might taste like, but I know you British like your G & Ts. Thanks for sharing your incredible art and your Blueberry Gin Collins with us for T this Tuesday, along with your great art.

  6. Jo, that drink sounds wonderful. I may have to try it for July 4th with a touch of grenadine. Love your field notes art journal page with all the fab details. That large flower is beautiful. Super well done. Happy late T-day (had to work super late yesterday) and hugz.

  7. Such a gorgeous page Jo! I hope you are doing well and sorry if I fell off the face of the earth for a bit, but am happy to be back visiting with you. I’m totally drooling over the gin and could go for a glass right about now. Thanks for sharing! Big hugs, Autumn
