Angel Wings

Happy memories spring to mind when I see a certain Christmas decoration as it reminds me of my sister saying the happy quote that’s on my page – I hope it makes you smile!

Don’t forget that you still have another week to join our Uplifting or Positive Quote challenge at Try it on Tuesday too!

I started by colouring the background using Antique Linen Distress Ink through an Iso Fun stencil from Paperbabe Stamps. The wording was stamped using black Archival Ink and a fabulous alphabet stamp set from Paperbabe Stamps.

I drew the angel wings onto a book page and fussy cut them out. Before sticking them onto the page, I created some shadows around their edges so that they stood out more, by applying some Iced Chai Faber-Castell Gelato with a paintbrush. Next I created lots of feather shaped pieces to layer over the wings; they are cut from some Sheet Music and edged using Mustard and Willow Inktense pencils and also a Dark Sepia Faber-Castell Big Brush marker and black Uni Pin marker. I arranged them over the wings using double-sided tape and added some pieces of lace between the layers to add more texture.

Then I stencilled a border around the edge of the page using the Iso Fun stencil again and some Vintage Photo Distress Ink; I splattered some water over the top and left it a few minutes before mopping it up with a piece of kitchen towel which gave a lovely bleached effect. To finish the page and add some sparkle, I added the metallic copper gems.

Here’s the Christmas decoration that inspired my page, both me and my sister bought one of these whilst out shopping; when she saw them my sister said “every time a bell rings an angel gets her wings” so I always smile when I see it and remember her words.

Some of you were asking about the angels that I included on my post last week. They are acrylic LED figurines, one has a harp and the other a violin; I’ll try and remember to take a better photo of them next Christmas so you can see the detail. Their lights are battery operated and rotate through a series of colours – so very pretty!

As I’m showing these angels with my poinsettia cocktail again, I’m joining the T Party over at T Stands for Tuesday – Happy T day everyone!

Hope that you’re all staying safe and well! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  2. Pretty page and a clever way you made the angel wings. It’s a Wonderful Life is a favorite Christmas movie. It doesn’t seem like Christmas if we don’t see it. The angel wing ornament is so very pretty and a lovely memory for you and your sister to share. Happy T Day

  3. Good morning Jo, such a beautiful post for T almost had me tearing up. Loving all of the beautiful angels. My Mom collected angels-I kept a couple of her small ones. Happy T hugs

  4. Wow Jo. Those are amazing angel wings. Nice idea to create them they way you did. That is a perfect page for both TIOT this week and also for AJJ. Thank you so much for sharing this page and joining in. I was wondering about those angels. They are very cool to begin with but changing colors has to make them even more beautiful. I can picture that. We got the dogs some night time outdoor collars this year that change colors. It is like a hippy party outside watching them through the window because the colors are so bright and really happy. Hope you are having a great T day and 2021 so far. Hugs-Erika

  5. Oh what beautiful angel wings you have created Jo! I love the added touches of lace. I remember that saying from an old Christmas movie but can’t remember which one it was;)
Your angel ornaments are so pretty- I haven’t seen any like this that light up.

  8. I was by earlier, then got called away before I could leave a comment. I also had a ton of paperwork I was trying to get out yesterday, which sucked up my time. I was late getting my T post up yesterday and now I’m even later playing host. I’m sorry I’m late visiting.

You put SO much into those wings. Just the cutting alone must have taken forever. I’m sure adding the shadows and assembly were also time consuming. You put so much thought into this entry and I’m thrilled you also shared it with us at Art Journal Journey.

You always find a great way to show how life and art intersect in your world and your angel wings from your tree and your angels with your poinsettia drink are perfect examples. Thank you so much for sharing your art, your angels, and your poinsettia cocktail with us for T this Tuesday (a day late).

  9. Jo, you always do a great job of artistically interpreting what you see in life. What uplifting words these are coming from one of my favorite Christmas movies! Love how you’ve incorporated texture on your page with the layered ‘feathers’ of the book page ‘wings’. Thank you for sharing your journal page with us at The Funkie Junkie Boutique challenge blog!

  10. I love that quote from “It’s a wonderful life” too, Jo. Thanks for the memories. I have another page for TioT that I hope to post tomorrow, if doctor appointments allow.

I love your LED-lit angels too. That’s a gorgeous photo you took! Don’t change a thing, (Grin.)
Happy T-day! Stay safe and well. Hugs, Eileen

  11. Your LED lit Angels look lovely, I bet they create a great glow at Christmas time. Similarly the angel wings you and your sister both have. That has given me an idea for my sister in Oz. Thanks.
Your page is lovely and the feathers cut from sheet music are perfect. What a lot of time it must have taken to build these up in this way but how successful are they. They fit together so well with the quote your sister used and you used on this page. The border is perfect, it compliments the words and the wings rather than overshadows them and the addition of the metallic copper gems is the ideal finishing touch.
I like it – Hugs, Neet xx
