Tis the season to be … fluffy

As you probably know by now I love robins so I just couldn’t resist using this beautiful robin image, it reminded me of the fun saying “tis the season to be …fluffy”.

I coloured the page using an Earl Grey Faber-Castell Gelato to match the grey background of the robin image. The Gelato was scribbled onto the background and smudged with my finger which I had wet with a little water. The robin image was fussy cut from an old magazine that a dear friend gifted me for art journaling. Once stuck in place using a glue stick, I trimmed the image to fit the page. I arranged some of the trimmed pieces of leaves around the edges of page creating my wintry scene. For the wording I used some silver glitter stickers and then to finish, I splattered the page with both white and metallic silver acrylic paints.

As T Stands for Tuesday and to wish you all a Happy T Day, I’m sharing another fluffy robin that is on my winter mug.

If you’re wondering why robins sometimes look fluffy, it’s because on chilly days they puff out their feathers to keep warm. This puffing fluffs out their down feathers, giving some insulation to help the robin maintain its body temperature. So when winter’s here – “tis the season to be …fluffy (grin!).

Over Christmas we’ve also been enjoying this chocolate Yule Log from a local bakery, it was so very yummy! Not too sweet and covered in a thick layer of chocolate, and if you look closely…

…there’s even a little robin on the top (double grin!).

I hope you’ve had a safe and happy Christmas. Wishing you all the very best for 2021!

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. Your page is gorgeous Jo! I adore robins too, and always say good morning to the ones we see on our walks in the morning.
That Yule log looks delicious. I didn’t make one this year, there were no children to eat it. I usually decorate it with little decorations that were my Nan’s, including a little robin 😊
    Happy Twixtmas and T-Day,
    Alison xx

    • Thanks so much! I baked a few other goodies for Christmas but couldn’t resist buying this when I saw it, there was only the two of us so eyes bigger than belly springs to mind…lol 😀… but we had a piece each day with a cuppa and it was so delicious. We often see robins on our walks through woodland at Lytham Hall and I was pleased to see our robin on the feeder over Christmas too – yay! Happy Twixtmas and T Day too! Hugs, Jo x

  2. European robins are really cute! One of the best photos I ever took was of a European robin opening his beak to sing. American robins are bigger and clunkier!

Have a great end to 2020 and a much better 2021!

  5. As I started reading, I saw Earl Grey and was surprised to see it was the color of a gelato! Because of course, I was thinking of tea. I love your fluffy robin. Robins here PUFF up, but don’t FLUFF up. They are too big and bulky to fluff. Yours is adorable and it matches your mug perfectly, too. What a double fluffy treat today, dear Jo. Thanks for sharing this great beauty with us using Tracey’s theme at Art Journal Journey, dear friend. And thanks for sharing it, as well as your robin mug of tea with us, for T this Tuesday, too. That is a lovely Christmas log. I am sure you will enjoy it through the holidays.

  8. Lovely page, Jo. I didn’t know that robins could fluff out their feathers like a warm winter coat. Very interesting. It certainly does look cold on your page with all the silver and white.

The Yule log is beautiful and looks delicious.

Happy T-day and a Happy (Improved) New Year! Hugs, Eileen

  10. Hi Jo! My best wishes to you for a Happy New Year! I guess I haven’t been paying proper attention, as the robin love escaped me but now I know. And what’s so funny is that I am right now working on a card I hope to post for New Years Eve night that has robins on it. How serendipitous! I even googled for pics of our local winter favorite Flame Robins to make sure I colored them correctly. How lucky were you to score that yummy-looking yule log! Enjoy! XOX
