Thankful and Cosy this Autumn

I always count my blessing this time of year and having fallen in love with the wording “Let’s get cosy, autumn has arrived”, I was inspired to create this thankful art journal page – I hope you like it!

I started by creating lots of panels for the page which I edged with a Dark Sepia Big Brush marker and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. The panels included: some bark and tree-ring cardstock from Docrafts; some copper leaf images with the “Cosy Autumn” wording from Craft Sensations; a cinnamon stick and baking image from a Die Cut Book; and some brown strips of lace. The paper elements were stuck down using double-sided tape and the lace using Liquitex matte gel medium. When arranged, I stencilled the herringbone design using a mixed media stencil from Paperbabe Stamps with Brushed Corduroy and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink fading the stencil pattern where the birds were to be placed.

For the leaves I used a Fall Foliage Thinlits set from Tim Holtz, they are cut from some kitchen roll that I had used to mop up some excess Brushos with. I lined them up using a glue stick onto a piece of bark cardstock from Docrafts.

I added a pair of birds sitting on an autumn branch which I fussy cut from an old nature book; the birds are Long-Tailed Tits which we sometimes see on our woodland walks. Once stuck in place using a glue stick, I extended the branches using an ordinary pencil and a Bark Derwent Intense pencil. The yellow borders, “thank you” and “love” wording and also the lace doily shapes are all stickers from Kaisercraft. Then to finish, I added the pretty cream lace flowers.

The wording and page reminded me of my new slippers which are so warm and cosy (grin!).

I hope that you are staying thankful and cosy this autumn too, keep well and stay safe! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. This is a wonderful autumn page Jo. I really love that paper you cut the leaves from. The images are beautiful as is the cloth trim you added. Nice page. And nice slippers too. They looks really warm and cozy! Hope you are staying healthy and well. Happy end of your week. Hugs-Erika

  2. This is beautiful and I love your words. Yes, November is a great time to get cosy, wearing our warm woolly jumpers and socks ( and I love your cosy slippers). Making the leaves from inky kitchen roll – that’s clever – and they do have great texture and colour. Of course the long-tailed tits are thinking of stealing the show, sitting on that very pretty branch.
Have a lovely cosy November, Jo, and the rest of winter too.

  3. I was fascinated with how you cut the leaves from your kitchen roll (paper towels to us in the states, of course). Those were perfect colors and using the towel as a mop-up was great. Beautiful all around, though and a thoughtful addition to the page using Wendy’s theme at Art Journal Journey.

I LOVE those slippers, but that rug is amazing, too.

  4. You won my heart with the Lace Jo.. you know you would sigh! Great use of the mop up, always looks good no matter what we do with it but those colours are perfect to share the love of Autumn. Those slippers look so cosy, I was treated to a new pair for my Birthday. Remember to take them off before you go kicking around in the wonder of Autumnal leaf fall hee hee!!
    Hugs Tracey xx

  5. Gorgeous tones of rust and doily textures! Brilliant page, Jo! Thanks for linking it at Country View Challenges!
Now… why is it that, as we get older, a pair of cosy slippers has us swooning when only a dark and handsome stranger would have done it in our twenties?
