Love Hearts

As last month signified our wedding anniversary and my hubby’s birthday, this page was inspired by love!

I really like the worn grungy look and feel to this page and I embossed the tiny hearts on a large red heart to depict how our love has grown over the years (grin!).

I started by covering the page with pieces of decoupage paper by VivaGade, old sheet music and Botanical collage paper by Tim Holtz using Liquitex matte gel medium. Then I alternated layers of Pébéo white gesso using a brayer and some Distress Inks to create the grungy look, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next; the Distress Inks I used were Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso and they were applied by stamping the ink onto an acrylic block, spritzing with water and either pressing the block or dripping the ink onto the page.

For the hearts I used some red foil cardstock cutting the smaller hearts using a Falling Hearts Thinlit set from Tim Holtz. I also got creative and used the Thinlit to emboss the large heart with lots of tiny hearts. Before sticking the hearts in place I marked where the large heart was to be placed and then painted black DecoArt acrylic around the edges dragging the paint outwards. I did the same with white acrylic paint and then splattered the page with both the black and white acrylic paints flicking the brush so the splatters emanated outwards from the heart. When dry, I stuck the hearts in place and added two black brads to the large heart. The “love” wording was created from the red foil and some white cardstock using a Shadow Script Thinlits set from Tim Holtz which finished the page.

Don’t forget that you still have another week to join our Embossed challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, it would be lovely to see you there!

For our wedding anniversary we ordered some delicious food from a new local takeaway called Elvin’s Street Food. The food is influenced by traditional Middle Eastern recipes that have been passed through generations of the owner’s family and they have an extensive vegan menu too. The owners pride themselves on using local produce from across Lancashire and being eco-friendly using easy to recycle packaging for their meals.

I had the “Sweet Kickin’ Chicken & Butterbeans”; this is spiced-infused chicken breast pieces and butterbeans slow-cooked for a rich and creamy texture, sweetened with homemade apple sauce. It’s served with rice, flatbread, salad, fresh mango and pomegranate salsa and yoghurt dip, and I also had a side order of fries – so yummy!

My hubby had “Lebanese-Style Yoghurt Chicken”; this is grilled chicken breast pieces marinated in yoghurt and Lebanese spices. It’s served with the same extras and he had the same side order of fries!

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m also sharing the amazing mango lassi that I had to drink – this yoghurt based mango concoction was so delicious! Happy T Day everyone!

Hoping that you all staying safe and well! x

  1. I love your big red heart and all those little hearts. They pop off the page and really catch your eye. You have a busy October with wedding anniversary and hubby’s birthday. Me too, so I can relate to all the excitement. The middle eastern food sure looks yummy. It must have been a nice treat. Hope you have a super T day Jo. Hugs-Erika

  2. I love how you treated the large heart. I wouldn’t have thought to outline and drag the paint outward before adhering the large heart. All those small hearts are great, too. And that background is out of this world. I LOVE the grunge and you did it perfectly. Happy belated anniversary, dear.

I KNEW I should have eaten before I came here. I always love Lebanese food and it’s been so long since I’ve had it, because my favorite restaurant shut its doors for good after over 35 years in service. Both meals look wonderful and I bet the mango lassi was the perfect cooling drink to add to the spicy Lebanese food. Thanks for sharing your incredible journal page and your food and mango lassi with us for T this Tuesday.

  3. Love the growing hearts, strong and sweet.
Embossing… I´m at it. With a murder soldering iron from Hubby, so that´ll take a while as I do not try that by myself!! He burned a page already! Imagine what happened if I took that…
Hmmm, your meal sounds more than yummy! As the drink.

The Pritt Stick made me smile.I grew up with this.

  4. The effect of dragging the white and black behind the focal image is brilliant. Plus, the grunge is just right. For me the white behind the sentiment is too stark. Maybe reverse the colors? I went the other way and left the mat off one of mine and the sentiment got lost. Oh what to do….

  5. I love the foil cardstock and how you embossed little hearts on the large one. Lovely!

Your meals look delicious. I like the idea of something very differenet for a change. Our takaway choices are limited to sushi and chicken tenders.

Happy T-Day. Stay safe and stay well. Hugs, Eileen

  6. Fun anniversary page. Wow that food looks so good. When I did the year long Reggie class, they sent out to a Middle Eastern restaurant for the Saturday night dinner. I had never had Middle Eastern food before so it was fun to try new to me stuff. Happy T Day

  8. Your love inspired layout is so pretty. I love the the little bit of embossing on the large heart. It really pops against your grungy, contrasting background.
What a yummy looking meal. We just started trying Middle eastern food. It is different than we are used to but we enjoy the spiciness and unusual flavors. Happy Anniversary.

  9. What a lovely anniversary page. I love the small heart/large heart thing to show how your love has grown.
The Lebanese take-away sounds really nice. I would be spoilt for choice and wouldn’t know which to order. They both look very delicious.
    Happy T-Day,
    Stay safe,

  10. I like the contrast of the black grunge and the red foil on your page. Happy anniversary. You both apparently enjoy different cultures’ cuisines, we used to be able to. Enjoy while you can and your digestive tract does not have other ideas, lol. Don’t really know if I could enjoy strange new food all served together like that, but my dad would say, it all ends up in the same place, haha. XOX

  11. Lovely heart artwork. And I like that math formulas ephemera page. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone use that before: great idea. Congratulations on your anniversary. Your food looked delicious. Your mango drink container looks like the same type I used to get a cappuccino blast in, during the Summer: none of those this year, due to covid-19. Happy T-Day!
