Shine like the whole universe is yours

The new challenge for the next two weeks at Try it on Tuesday is Autumn Colours.

I love the colours of autumn so I had fun creating this page and there’s not a leaf in sight – I hope you like it!

I started by covering the page with Pébéo white gesso and modelling paste using a paintbrush. When dry, I applied Peat Moss, Potting Soil, Orange Blossom and Buttercup Wendy Vecchi Blendable Dye Inks and Fired Brisk Distress Ink over the top and spritzed them with water letting the inks drip across the page and left it to dry. Then I splattered the page using gold Liquitex Ink.

Next I added some gold Ranger embossing powder over the inks using a VersaMark Watermark stamp pad and my heat gun.

The eagle picture was cut from an old book and edged using a Dark Sepia Faber-Castell Big Brush marker and some of the gold embossing powder; it was stuck in place using double-sided tape. As the eagle symbolises courage and power, I added some Small Talk stickers from Tim Holtz which read “Shine like the whole universe is yours”, “be Fearless” and “be brave with your life”. They were coloured using Yellow Ochre Kuretake watercolour paint to blend them into the background more.

Next I added some gold Glitterations border stickers to the page and then applied some of the gold embossing powder to some Bozzy Bear wood chippies which I coloured using a Dark Sepia Faber-Castell Big Brush marker; they were stuck down using Ranger Glossy Accents which finished the page.

For more inspiration, my fellow Design Teamies have been having fun with Autumn Colours over at Try it on Tuesday too, please pop over and take a look.

As T Stands for Tuesday and it’s autumn I’m sharing our homebrewed pumpkin beer – cheers and Happy T Day! This copper beer has to be my favourite beer, it has a lovely hint of pumpkin and pumpkin spice aroma; this one came at 5.78% abv (alcohol by volume). We discovered pumpkin beer when we visited Federal Jack’s in Kennebunkport, Maine. They serve it with an optional shot of spiced rum added, so we have tried it that way too; it’s so nice and warming on a cold autumn day, though I limit myself to only one as it’s quite potent (grin!).

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. Yes, Jo, I have a question. How many elves do you have to help you?
Making it with Peat Moss and Potting Soil is very appropriate..
“Bozzy Bear wood chippies” ? – what a great name.
I so appreciate seeing photos of the steps, so thanks for that.
It’s a lovely vibrant autumn piece (with no leaves!) and I love the words too, very inspiring.

  2. You did create such a beautiful autumn colors background Jo. And nice to see no leaves, although I must say ours are turning now and there are more yellows than anything else this year. Still both your page and the yellow leaves are beautiful. I love the idea of shining like the universe is yours, as it is ours, isn’t it? And your pumpkin beer looks great. I wonder how it tastes with the shot in it? I’ve never heard of that. I had some pumpkin beer las week with a cinnamon sugar rim, which although not uncommon, is never a wrong way to go. Have a wonderful T day Jo. Hugs-Erika

  3. I was SO impressed with your background, dear Jo. It is beautiful and quite stunning. You couldn’t have picked better autumn colors. I really LOVE the vintage eagle. Also, I love the texture you got which is perfect for your theme at Art Journal Journey.

Your beer of choice is definitely autumnal. It seems pumpkins come out of the wall this time of year. It’s wonderful and, even though I wouldn’t want an entire bottle, I’d love to taste a sip. Thanks for sharing your beer and your gorgeous art with us for T this Tuesday, dear friend.

  4. Stunning colours here, Jo. I love the gold touches, too – gold always goes so well with Autumnal shades and adds a touch of opulence like Autumn sunshine. That’s almost one of my favourite bible verses, lol – I thought it was when I first looked. ‘Shine among them like stars lighting up the sky.’ Shame about the leaves, though…lol 😉

  5. Still dark here, I´m so sad summer is over, yet I like your work and the words are very helpful again, too.
I´m late! In my defense… taxes!!! Argh! Do you have any idea how much I would love to try that pumpkin beer right now? LOL! Oh, I just cannot imagine how it might taste like! (Please don´t say “pumpkin” 😉 I had pumpkin once and it tasted like potatoe. Maybe Ingo did it wrong or it was the wrong type).

  6. A fabulous page Jo, the colours with the gold embossing look stunning and I love the contrast with the white splattered side.
Your beer sounds interesting, might have to look for that one.
Have a great week. Avril xx

  9. Lovely autumn page, Jo. The way the inks blended is beautiful. Not a leaf in sight and yet the viewer gets a feeling of leaves and fall.

Happy T-day! Stay safe and stay well. Hugs, Eileen

  10. I love autumn too for its colour. There is nothing nicer than seeing the trees on fire with the reds and golds that some turn to as October progresses. Orange and yellow also feature and that sage green just as the leaves are turning and you have certainly captured the look in your page without a single leaf in sight.
Love the vivid colours in the top right corner that spreads down and across the bottom of the page – and the gold diamonds finish it off perfectly with the colours of the season. Great addition to bring in the eagle picture and also to leave white space as you have done. Your composition is superb.
    Hugs, Neet xx
