Time …

Experimenting with new products is always fun but what happens when things don’t work as expected, well you make do and improvise which is what I did for this page (grin) – I hope you like it!

The background started with some leftover Seedless Grape Distress Ink that I stamped using a Clock stamp from Kaisercraft. I added some Burnt Umber Liquitex Acrylic paint which I coated with a layer of Docrafts Crackle Medium and then some Parchment Liquitex Acrylic paint but the crackle didn’t appear. I repeated the layers again thicker this time but still no crackle effect (having doing a bit of research, apparently this brand is not easy to use) so I decided to rub the layers with a baby wipe to remove some of paints which left a distressed painted wood effect instead which I really like (grin!).

Then I stamped the clocks using a Tic Toc stamp from Kaisercraft and Ground Espresso Distress Archival Ink. Next I added the lace and large flower border which are stickers from Kaisercraft; I created some shadows around the top edge of the flowers, so that they stood out more, by applying and smudging some of the Dark Sepia Faber-Castell marker with my finger before sticking them down. The vase of flowers was from a Botanicals Layers set from Tim Holtz and the wording was from Kaisercraft and reads “Time has a wonderful way of reminding us what’s important”. To finish, I added some tiny flowers to the wording and the bottom of the vase which are from the same sticker sheet from Kaisercraft.

As T Stands for Tuesday I’m sharing my cup of tea and a yummy homemade carrot cupcake topped with cream cheese frosting and saying a big hello to the T Gang – Happy T Day everyone!

Hoping that you are all staying safe and well! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. I have to start by saying that journal page is a BEAUTIFUL contradiction. First, was the grunge look of the background that I thought turned out great, then there was the very romantic foreground with the flowers and lace. It was beautiful and when things like that happen to me, I call them flopportunities. Adding the clocks made it even more special. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey using Halle’s theme.

My grandmother (I think you know my grandparents raised me from birth) always asked what kind of cake I wanted for my birthday. Bet you can guess it was always the same: carrot with cream cheese frosting. Lucky you. I can almost taste it, too. Grams made hers from scratch. I am sure she would have enjoyed tea, too. Thanks for the memories and the tea you shared with us for T this Tuesday, dear Jo.

  3. Your page is lovely. It reminds me of the Victorian greeting cards my Godmother loved and collected. The carrot cupcake would make a great second breakfast. Take care and Happy T Day

  6. I like this background Jo. I like how there are lot of clocks but it is not all clocks. And the flowers are gorgeous. Thanks for joining us at AJJ. And I’ll take a cupcake please. With a cup of tea would be a perfect break during the day. I hope it was a great T day. And thanks for joining us at Art Journal Journey also. Halle’s got a fun new theme, doesn’t she? Happy June. 7. There is no such thing as a disaster in art. Your page is a good example of something beautiful coming out of an unintended situation. It’s lovely. I love the contrast with the little flowers at the bottom.
Carrot muffins and cream cheese icing! Yum. You have spurred me on to make another carrot cake/tray bake with this icing. I had bought extra cream cheese for the icing and then completely forgot. So thank you for reminding me.
    Sorry for the late comment,
    Happy belated T-Day,

  8. I looked at your background and straight away I thought what a super job you had made of that “Vaseline technique”. A fabulous shabby chic look to it all. So a real ‘happy accident’ Jo. I think it looks superb.
Love how you have stamped the clocks, overlapping and only partial images in some cases. It really is very effective and I imagine not easy to do. A great page and the addition of the lace and flower border just works perfectly.
A real winner in my book.

  9. Good save! I too have the Docrafts Crackle and I think I managed to make it work once but I have no idea how so have been unable to make it work again. I think thickness of paint or crackle glaze was involved but… I now use Paper Artsy crackle and that works like a charme every time! Hugs x
