Our new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday is Black and White plus One Extra Colour.
I used black, white and red to create this feminine vintage page featuring love and peace as well as a beautiful saying – “Throw kindness around like confetti”.
I started this page with by using up ink (that was leftover from my previous card making tutorial) on an Interlocking Circles stencil from Creative Expressions; using the stencil like a stamp which already had some Black Soot Distress Ink left on it. I spritzed the stencil with water and then pressed it onto the page firmly using a brayer. Then I used a baby wipe to clean the remaining ink off the stencil which added more layers of the ink to the page. The words “Peace” and “Love”, the ticket, ornate frames, postage mark, bees, text and flowers are stamped onto white tissue paper using black Archival Ink; these were all leftover from previous projects as I often stamp images onto tissue paper before using it on a page to see if they suit the design and also to decide where to place them. I then used the Interlocking Circles stencil again to add more Black Soot Distress Ink using a blending tool. Then I die cut some hearts from some recycled red foil cardstock using Falling Hearts Thinlets from Tim Holtz and arranged them on the page like confetti to depict the “Throw kindness around like confetti” wording which is a Small talk sticker from Tim Holtz.
As it was Easter this month we have been enjoying Hot Cross Buns so as T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing my cuppa with a Hot Cross Bun filled with Lancashire cheese which is a white crumbly cheese produced locally – yum! Happy T Day everyone!
Stay safe and keep well! x
Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

There’s something really elegant and spacious about this page, Jo – it has a very peaceful vibe with the darks and lights, and the gentle grey tones in between.

Your designs in the background are so elegant as well as the color scheme. Black and white is such a wonderful palette to work with.
Your hot cross bun sounds delicious, especially the bit about it being filled with local cheese. I only ever heard of these through the song we used to sing but I didn’t know what they looked like until I started watching the Great British Baking Show. Did you make your own?
Happy Tea Day,
Kate

Thank you Kate! Although I do usually make my own (Paul Hollywood’s recipe is very good), these ones are shop bought as I haven’t been able to get flour for 4 weeks so I have to prioritise my baking 😀. Happy T Day! Hugs, Jo x

Always good to see a little reverse stencilling, Jo and it looks good. Using the positive and the negative at the same time is a striking effect in black and white. The tissue paper worked beautifully – nice and handy. Great page and the idea of kindness confetti is a great one 🙂

What an absolutely gorgeous vintage inspired journal page. For me, it was the hearts. They seemed to have been thrown around (with deliberation, of course) like confetti. It’s a terrific page with a background I fell in love with. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey, too.
Hot cross buns! I’ve only seen photos of them. We don’t get them here, but now I’m definitely hungry. Thanks for sharing your lovely art, your hot cross bun with cheese, and your tea with us for T this Tuesday.

What a lovely elegant page. Black, white and one colour. I think Valerie has also done something with that theme. I love it that your page is encouraging kindness. Throwing little hearts all around. Lovely.
Your hot cross bun looks delicious. My mouth waters. We didn’t have any this year. They are such a faf to make. And the cheese is yummy too. I have had crumbly Lancashire cheese once and I remember I liked it very much.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca

Wonderful page, Jo. I sometimes stamp images onto tissue paper thinking they’ll come in handy some day. I like your approach better – to see if they suit a particular page and to decide where to place them.
Your hot cross bun with cheese looks delicious.
Belated Happy T-Day! Eileen xx

I will bring the strawberry tea and you can bring the buns. They look yummy. I don’t think I have ever had a hot cross bun. And I do love your latest page. That is a cool quote, and those little hearts are just like confetti. You also managed to combine so many nice images together-and they work. Thanks for sharing with us at Art Journal Journey. People really seem to finally do this these days – throw that kindness, smiles around.
They are more polite. And I very much like the distance at the cash-outs!
Beautiful work.
Oh! I thought those Hot Cross Buns are always sweet. Cheese!!! Now I´m hungry!!
Belated happy T-day!

Well, I am just tickled pink that you shared your gorgeous art journal page with us over at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, Jo! I love the black/white theme with those bold (and shiny!) red hearts! The way you’ve used the stencil is just genius and what a fabulous effect it makes. Thank you for sharing your artwork with us at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog!! Sending big hugs your way!

Wow! Your page is stunning Jo! I love the pops of the red hearts against the black and white.
There’s so much kindness around at the moment. I had to use my local volunteers service to deliver my prescription last week. It’s hard when you’re confined to the house.
I hope you’re having a good week,
Alison xx
