Home is the place to bee

When I was sorting through some old photos on my phone, I saw one of a jug/pitcher with the wording “Home is the place to bee”. It seemed to be very appropriate given that we have to stay at home at the moment – I hope that you are keeping safe and well at home too!

I started by applying Scattered Straw and Tea Dye Distress Ink to the page by dragging the ink pads lightly over the paper and then using a wet paintbrush to disperse the colour. When dry I used a Reversed Honeycomb stencil from That’s Crafty to add the honeycomb design; first applying Tea Dye Distress Ink, then Ranger Texture Paste and then Black Soot Distress Ink making sure that each product had dried between applications. Then I stamped the wording using a Sophisticated Script stamp set from Concord & 9th and black Archival Ink. The larger honeycombs are cut from a doodle book and coloured with Saffron, Sandstone, Honeycomb and Canary Winsor & Newton Promarkers and then stuck in place using a glue stick.

I stamped the bees which are from a Dovecraft stamp set directly onto the page and also onto some white cardstock using black Archival Ink. Then I coloured the cardstock bees with Canary and Black Promarkers, fussy cut them out and stuck them over the bees I had stamped onto the page. To finish, I added some wooden yellow and white flowers.

Here’s the jug that inspired my page, it was taken in a local store whilst Christmas shopping last year, if you look closely on the top right-hand side of the photo you will see a glass with bees on it which I bought for my sister; she loves bees! As this photo has mugs and glasses too, I’m also sharing it with the T Gang over at T Stands for Tuesday – Happy T Day everyone!

Stay safe and keep well! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  2. That is a cute saying and your page is fantastic Jo. I like the honeycomb design you made with the modeling paste and then stamping. Oh bees are such cool insects and do such good things. And they are fun to make with too. Nice mug too. Have a great T day. And hope you are staying well. Hugs-Erika

  5. Oh what a sweet page! I love the saying on it. It is very appropriate now.
The jug in the shop is really lovely, and i can just about see the glass you bought for your sister.
Happy T-Day, (I won’t tell you to stay at home. As Iris says: we are not children and yes, we got the message.)
    Hugs,

  6. OK, Jo. I’m MORE than impressed. I can see fussy cutting the bee’s body and wings, but NOT the legs and antennae. You truly ARE the queen of fussy cutting. I can’t help it: you are the bees knees (tee hee). Lovely yellow, black and white with all those hexagons (honeycombs). Love what you did with the texture paste, too. This is a super entry for Valerie’s theme at Art Journal Journey. You are SO good about linking with us.

It was great that you found those photos that inspired both your journal page AND your T Tuesday post. The mug is lovely, and I am sure your sister loved her glass you bought her for Christmas. I know I would. Thanks for sharing your art and the mug and glass with us for T this Tuesday, dear friend.

  7. Darling bee page, Jo! Bees seem to be “in.” I’m seeing cute bee craft ideas all over. Part time T-lady, Deb, is even doing a bee journal!

The close up photos are fabulous and show just how much went into this page. Wish I could send one of those mugs to Deb – lol.

    Happy T-Day! Eileen xx

  8. I am sat here with two bees in my ears, once in each, gold of course not real ones; and a bee hanging from a chain around my neck. My bee mug is beside me. I love bees. More so since the tragedy of the bomb at Manchester’s MEN Arena when the bee was adopted as a symbol for the city (taken from its coat of arms I think).
So you see, your picture is especially appealing to me, I am drawn to anything with bees on and especially love this page of yours. To be honest it would look good in a frame on your wall – it is so lovely, light and bright. I do like the stencil you have used and will be investigating that one as mine are all the reverse of that one. Love your little bees, the lettering and the addition of the flowers but most of all I think I like the way you have built up the colours in the background and then used your stencil. Fabulous artwork!
    Hugs, Neet xx

  9. This reminds me I have a set with bees that I need to break in… Lovely page Jo, the repetition of the honeycomb motif in different textures and layers is a very clever design.

  10. This is lovely, Jo. I’ve seen some bee-themed challenges and new stamps, it must be a popular motif this season. The wooden flowers and texture paste add lovely dimension. Have a wonderful Friday! xox
