I had fun art journaling using a New Technique, which is our new challenge theme over at Try it on Tuesday for the next two weeks.
I hope to see you there and don’t forget to tell us what new technique you used.
I created a quick and simple background (many of you will know that “quick and simple” is so unlike me … grin!) by applying paint with a old plastic gift card – it was such a fun technique and definitely something I will try again!
First, I layered some Cold Grey and Vivid Lime Green Liquitex acrylic and some white and black DecoArt acrylic paint onto the page using the gift card to scrape the paint across the page. Then I added more of these paints using the edge of the gift card to create lots texture; I love how it turned out (grin!). When dry, I added some pink felt flowers using Ranger Glossy Accents, some flower stickers which are edged with some smudged black Faber-Castell Big Brush marker, some green circular rub-on transfers and a “paradise” fabric sticker and just like that the page was finished.
We are starting to plan jobs in the garden for this year and this page reminded me of how our garden becomes our own little “paradise” especially when these beautiful pink daisy flowers are flowering. I’m so looking forward to seeing them again.
As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing a pint of Saxon Red Ale that we had whilst out last week. It’s brewed locally by The Parker Brewery and is smooth and malty with a hint of spice on the finish – cheers and Happy T Day!

Your colour choices are perfect, Jo. I often scrape paint (or use a baby wipe to apply it) and think it works out so much better than using a brush. Gesso is great applied that way. Your page has turned out beautifully. The flowers provide that lovley pop of colour and change the whole landscape. Isn’t it great to see flowers popping up again? I think garden planning would be beyond me..I like perennials that do their own thing, lol.

OMGosh, Jo. I cannot believe this is the very first time you have created that technique. It takes SO LITTLE paint, too, which is great if you are nearly out of paint. It’s also a great way to stretch your paint and it dries in NO TIME at all. It’s one of my favorite techniques. I also LOVE how you created the lines using the edge of the card. This technique turned out great. I also love how you incorporated the green for Eileen’s theme at Art Journal Journey. BTW, I really look forward to seeing your landscaped garden again this year. You always inspire me.
Also, I’m delighted you shared your Red Ale from the local micro brewery. Just wonderful. Do they make a stout (grin)? Thanks for sharing your journal art and your beer with us for T this Tuesday.

Thanks so much! I’ve never created a whole background just using paint and a gift card so this was fun …lol 😉. The brewery, do have a stout called Dark Spartan Stout and although I haven’t tried it, it does sounds delicious – “Hints of chocolate and coffee and is silky smooth. Beer ..always something to enjoy!
I don’t drink any alcohol but found out that I like a bavarian “Franziskaner” alcoholfree wheat beer and bought me some bottles. And I can tell that I enjoy it to my lunches from time to time. But not every day , since it does fill so much…lol!

Our son is into unusual beers, he has a box delivered once a mo th from all over the world. We take him San Miguel, Steve used to all them little brown saints, ha,ha,

Your pink flowers will make your garden a paradise soon, and until then that art will give you hope 🙂 There are so many different kinds of beer/ale and such. I thought of you when I saw the video of Elizabeth Warren ordering Michelob Ultra and fondly calling it “the club soda of beers” lol Happy T Tuesday!

You really have created a fabulous background Jo – it is such a great technique isn’t it! I love the bright flowers you added! I wish I could feel enthusiastic about your beer but alas I was put off by tasting my Dad’s different beers when I was younger – there was never one I liked and when I went into hospital to have one of my boys I was made to drink Guiness……!!!!!!! I remember using that technique once and being amazed at the result… simple but so effective! I guess sometimes we need to tinker for hours on end and sometimes quick is better for our creativity! Enjoy the rest of the week, Jo. x

A fabulous page Jo, using the gift card to paint gives a wonderful texture. Love the bright flowers, makes me think of tropical gardens! I’m not a beer drinker, but I like the name!

What a wonderfully simple technique. Even I could cope with that. Must try that one day. I love how you did the vertical green bits as contrast. Then the bright pink of the flowers really livens it up even more. Great page!

That beer looks very nice. I read in one of your comments that they do a stout too. That would do me fine. (hints of chocolate and toffee!)

I love the background you made this time with your old credit card. `it looks like a brick wall, grey brick of course. Was that intentional or did it just happen with the way you did it?
When I first came to the post of yours I immediately thought the flower were felt and as i read i found that they were, what a brilliant idea and they remind you of those beautiful pink flowers you have in your garden. Great!
