Splash of Colour

You have a choice for our new challenge for the next two weeks over at Try it on Tuesday White Space or Colourful Grunge.

So you can leave a lot of white space or go colourful and grungy or maybe include both like me (grin!).

I created this art journal page using a couple of Carabelle Studio flower masks and some different techniques using Distress Inks; for one flower I used Cracked Pistachio and Fossilised Amber ink and for the other I used Festive Berries and Peacock Feathers ink. Firstly I applied a layer of watered down Distress Ink by painting it through the masks which was a new technique for me; I did this by stamping the ink pad onto an acrylic block and picking up the ink with a wet paintbrush. Then to intensify the colours I also applied the Distress Inks using a blending tool and then I splattered the inks onto the page too. I stamped a Script Stamp by Kaisercraft using black Archival Ink and added some black flower stickers. The wording “Sometimes all you need is a splash of colour” is a sticker from Kaisercraft and was outlined with a black Uni Pin marker. To finish, I splattered the page with black DecoArt acrylic paint.

For more inspiration, be sure to check out the white space and colourful grunge creations from my Design Teamies at Try it on Tuesday too!

Also over at Try it on Tuesday we have a Design Team call out, so if you are interested in joining our friendly group and have a current blog, please create a project for our White Space or Colourful Grunge challenge and when you enter your project over at Try it on Tuesday add DT to your challenge entry. We accept projects using any mediums, materials, style etc. it is your choice what you make, as long as it is based on the challenge theme.

To continue the white space theme and as T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing these fabulous mugs that we saw in a local shop. I thought they were so adorable and I know some of you will definitely like the pretty kitty cats – Happy T Day everyone!

  3. What a fun and wonderful page you have created, Jo. As always, I’m super impressed. It is super colorful, that’s for sure. But I also see the white spaces where your eye can rest. It’s a great entry for TioT.

I don’t own any distress inks, but I adore the way you used the masks. It’s a great technique and the blending was wonderful. Thanks for sharing it at Art Journal Journey. And I want to apologize for not being around to admire all the incredible art you have made, or even share my own for your theme this month, dear friend.

LOVE those mugs. The toucan was a joy to see, but both Bleubeard and Squiggles would disown me if I didn’t say how cute the cats were. Thanks for sharing your incredible journal page and your mugs with us for T this Tuesday.

  4. Another lovely page. I love the pretty stencils. No, they are masks. And the quote ‘all you need is a splash of colour’ applies to me very much these days, as we are snowed in and all I can see out of the window is white!
Yes, those mugs are gorgeous. I think the frogs are quite fun too.
    Wishing you a wonderful week,
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,

  5. I love that phrase, Jo. It really speaks to me. The page is fabulous and perfect for both aspects of the challenge.

Fabulous white space mugs too. Boy, you always know how to carry a theme. I almost typed “carry a tune” – lol.

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  6. I love this theme Jo, if I can leave some white space I feel very proud 😀 Your piece is like a Winter burst with your use of stencil leaving colourful snowflake flowers amongst that whiter space. The black flowers bring it all together as one.
I’m loving those mugs, my choice would have to be the froggies :))
Sending Hugs your way hope this weekend is full of crafty creativity. Tracey xx

  7. I’ll bet a lot of players to this challenge end up doing both white space and colorful grunge, heehee. I’m white space challenged. Your splash of color is wonderful and the masking technique is a great effect. xoxo
