Every Leaf

I love autumn and I find there’s nothing better then walking on crunchy leaves, so today’s page is inspired by sunny autumnal days and one of my favourite quotes by Emily Brontë:

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree”.

The background was started sometime ago. I had some green and brown Distress Inks leftover whilst creating another page which I didn’t want to waste, so I smooshed it onto a blank page and used some stamps to move the colour around. I covered it with some white acrylic paint and then to create the layers of leaves, I started by stencilling some large leaves using a Sheena Douglass stencil and Rusty Hinge, Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso Distress Ink. The smaller leaves are stamped using Potter’s Clay, Rich Cocoa and Toffee Crunch Memento Inks and I also added some stamped splatters using black Archival Ink. To enhance the grungy look I also splattered the page with white and black acrylic paint. Then I added some more white acrylic paint and when dry I repeated the stencilling and stamping of the leaves again and I also used a Sanguine Faber-Castell Big Brush marker to colour the areas where the white acrylic paint covered the large leaves so they stood out more.

I used a stitched edge circle die and my Big Shot machine to cut out the circles from mixed media paper and coloured them using Fossilized Amber and Rusty Hinge Distress Inks with a blending tool. Then I used my Tim Holtz stamping platform to stamp the acorn, quote, leaves, bird, hedgehog and berries using black Archival Ink and then stuck them to the page using a UHU Stic. I also added some yellow and white enamel dots which finished the page.

There is someone else who like leaves, especially chasing them although little Ellie also sometimes eats them too (grin!). Ellie is our friend’s dog, she is a cavapoo and still a puppy, isn’t she super sweet (double grin!).

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. Message below is from Rike, thanks so much for contacting me! Hugs, Jo x

I love your art journal page with this wonderful background made from the leftovers inks and these gorgeous leaves! Yesterday I tried stamping again, but it is harder for me than to draw, I was not satisfied with my results. Your stamping looks perfect and the colors are fitting very well to autumn! These circles are fabulous!
Haha, sweet Ellie really EATS those brown leaves? She is so cute!
Wish you a happy weekend, dear Jo!

    Rike xx

  2. This is SO adorable. The hedgehog is so cute. I love how you stamped all the leaves, the background you managed to save, and the slightly grungy feel you gave this journal entry. It’s a great entry for Rike’s theme at Art Journal Journey, too.

Ellie is SO cute. Bleubeard eats grass, so I can believe Ellie eats leaves (grin).

    • Thanks so much! Glad you popped back to leave a comment, for some reason comments were turned off this post so I’ll need to remember to check to make sure it’s working. Luckily Rike kindly emailed me to let me know it wasn’t working so I could sort out – phew! Thanks again and have a great weekend too! Hugs, Jo x

  5. Glad you got comments working since they weren’t working this morning. Your page today is a beautiful page. I like those circles and the cute little stamped images. Do you see hedgehogs in the fall? They are cute little animals that we don’t have here. And I must say that Ellie is so cute. And probably a bundle of puppy fun (and just a little bit of work). Happy weekend. Hugs-Erika

  6. Autumn’s my favorite season, if for no other reason, the summer’s heat makes me a fan of Fall. And I’ve enjoyed crunching fallen leaves, love that you reminded me. Never liked seeing all the leaves on my lawn but since we began hiring a lawn guy I don’t see them much any more (my Honey is a stubborn man about doing some things more than he thinks he should have to, lol). That’s a nice quote and lovely colorful page. xoxo

  7. Love how some of the leaves in the background look like they are floating over the others. Great colours and stamping too! Glad to see you playing with us again at Country View Challenges this month!
