Spooky

Hi everyone! I am so delighted to be in the Designer Spotlight this month over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thanks so much for all your kind wishes last week!

This week the theme is Spooky.

For this challenge I created a spooky art Journal page full of magic and mystery, maybe there’s a magic potion in one of those bottles – what are you going to wish for? (grin!).

I started by stencilling texture paste using a Mini Specimens template from The Crafter’s Workshop and when dry, I painted the page using Indigo and Black Kuretake watercolour paints. Then I applied Aged Silver Stampendous embossing enamel to the texture paste using a Versamark watermark pad. I used a Versamark watermark pen and Shabby White Stampendous embossing enamel for finer details. I also coloured some of the texture paste using a black Sharpie pen then I splattered the page using the black watercolour paint and also White Linen Dylusions Spray. I added some bats and cobwebs that I stamped onto tissue paper which finished the background.

For the tags, I die cut five tags using Sizzix Framelits and my Big Shot machine. They are cut from Pocket Cards from Tim Holtz, edged with black Versamark ink and then stamped using a Gothic Book Finnabair stamp and an Urban Tapestry Tim Holtz stamp set using the black Versafine ink and covered with black Stampendous embossing powder.

Next I added the pretty bottles which are from a Kaisercraft Sticker Book and decorated with some black ribbon and the metal “31” and “13” which are Countdown brads from Tim Holtz. The tags are finished with some eyelets and recycled black satin ribbon, and layered in place with some blue flowers which are fussy cut from a Botanicals Layers card. To finish, I added the “objet trouvé”, “finders keepers” and “make a wish” wording which are Quote Chips from Tim Holtz.

This spooky window can be found at the Moose and Moonshine restaurant in Liverpool and I think the witch may be making us a magic potion.

This restaurant is part of the Moose Coffee chain and they make the best hot chocolate with a shot of pumpkin spice syrup in it – yum! I’m saying a big hello to the T Gang over at T Stands for T Day – Happy T Day!

I enjoyed creating this art journal page for the Spooky challenge and I hope you will join in the fun too! For more inspiration please check out the fabulous creations from the Design Team over at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.

Don’t forget that Simon Says Stamp is generously giving away a $50 voucher to shop at the Simon Says Stamp Store! and one lucky participant will be randomly drawn to win this voucher. How amazing is that! Good Luck to everyone!

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  2. This is simply beautiful, Jo – those dreamy blues and whites, and that’s one of my favourite stencils, looking just sensational with the Aged Silver. The background is like looking into the misty depths… Love the layered tags used as focal points too and the potion bottles are lovely. I feel like there can’t be anything TOO harmful in anything so pretty… but maybe that’s part of the temptation!

  6. I absolutely LOVE this, Jo. Of particular interest is the way you positioned the tags and how well you decorated each of them. I was truly impressed with the overall look and this the type of “spooky” I don’t mind looking at. It’s a super entry and also perfect for Eileen’s theme at Art Journal Journey, too.

Your choice of drinks for T this week is wonderful. Witches brew or not, that hot chocolate sounds wonderful. You are all bundled up and I’m still wearing shorts and sleeveless tops. No wonder you want a hot chocolate. Thanks for sharing your incredible journal page as well as your hot chocolate with us for T this Tuesday.

  9. I like your take on spooky. Magic potions are really a good take on Halloween. I’ll have to think about what I want to wish for. Do I only get one wish? Smile. That is quite the inspiring window. Very spooky. Wishing you a happy T day Jo. Hugs-Erika

  11. A very belated congrats – spooky and beautiful at the same time!
I wish I was a tad more creative!

This one is great, too! I slowly get ideas now, too (well, yours, but I always wondered what to do with tags. Put them on pressies for the Nieces who never really saw them).

That mug looks great 🙂 Pumpkin sounds… strange though. Happy T-Day!

  12. I don’t care for the whole halloween thing, but I love your page as it is magical rather than spooky. It is also very beautiful.
The cafe looks really great. I’ll remember the Moose brand when I am in the UK next time. As I love my hot chocolate. (I equate England with ‘cold’, so I often drink hot chocolate). Plus that I would love to taste the pumpkin spices that everyone talks about. Our pumpkins don’t taste of much so I have no idea what pumpkin spices would taste like….
    Happy T-Day.
    Hugs,

  13. I’ve just written a comment and lost it. So you might get two!
I don’t care much for Halloween things, but your page is not spooky at all, in fact it is magical and very beautiful.
I must remember the Moose chain when we are in the UK next. I love hot chocolate. (I always equate England with ‘cold’ so I drink a lot of hot chocolate)
I would also love to taste the pumpkin spices. Our pumpkins don’t taste of much so I’m looking forward to tasting the spices.
    Happy T-Day.
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  15. I would have been happy with finishing the page at the background stage, it looks so frosty and has lovely blue and white designs. I can see the texture of the paste clearly and how well you’ve enhanced it. But you’ve taken it to another level with the tags which are each a complete work of art, absolutely beautiful, and then held down with a little flower. Using black eyelets and ribbon is a great idea and I like the words and how you’ve made them.
I just love everything about this, it’s beautiful and inventive.
You do go to nice cafes and restaurants and the window is incredible.
