Boys & Girls

We would love you to join our new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday for the next two weeks – Boys and Girls/Children.

I had fun creating a journal page with dictionary pages from my school days, primary coloured paints, some boys and girls’ vinyl stickers and the word “happy” – I hope you like it!

I started by randomly adding pieces of dictionary pages leftover from previous projects onto the background using Liquitex matte gel medium. Once dry, I added some stripes of yellow, red and blue watercolour paint. Then I used a baby wipe and a trellis stencil to pick up and move the paint around the page and left it to dry. I stamped “Happy” and also some flowers using black Archival Ink, separating the page into sections so I could add the white vinyl stickers of the boys and girls. I outlined each of the stickers, which took some time, with a black marker pen and added detail to the stamping using a white Uni Posca paint pen. To finish, I added the border using the white pen and a black Sharpie permanent marker.

Quite often it’s the small things that make me happy, like this bacon butty which I was treated to last week when I was out with my mum and it was so yummy (grin!). As T Stands for Tuesday my photo also includes my mum’s cappuccino – Happy T Day everyone!

  2. You answered 2 of my questions for me in this post. One, I was wondering how you had those cool white children on your page. I do love the look of your art today. It surely is children. And the second question you answered was what a bacon butty looked like. It does look yummy. happy T day Jo. And happy September too. Hugs-Erika

  3. An adorable page that captures childhood from days past Sadly, today’s children don’t seem to spend much time on outdoor activities.. That bacon butty looks awesome especially the bread 😋

  4. I love that you shared how you created the background to this page. That stencil did a great job of unifying the page, too. You must have a remarkable outlining pen, because mine is a drunkard and goes its own way when I’m trying to outline anything. Any tips would be welcome. You did a fabulous job. This is a beautiful entry for TioT, but also a great one using Erika’s theme at Art Journal Journey.

I had no idea what a bacon butty was, so followed your link to learn it’s a bacon sandwich in the states. It certainly looks delicious, even for this vegetarian. However, I don’t eat ketchup on anything, so they would have to hold that on mine. Your mother’s cappuccino looks wonderful. Looks like someone got a bit carried away with the cinnamon, though (grin). Sort of like how I would have shaken it on (I love the extra spices like that). Thanks for sharing your awesome journal page, your bacon butty, and your mother’s cappuccino with us for T this Tuesday, dear Jo.

  5. An awesome and magical page Jo. I love the white silhouette figures of the children playing. one of them made my think straight away of Jack and the beanstalk.
It looks a yummy bacon butty, a favourite comfort food in our house, especially on a winter morning.
    Happy T day wishes Jo.

  7. Like it? I flippin’ well love it! What a fabulous page – love the boys and girls. What a fabulous and different way of doing a silhouette – white instead of black. Never seen it done this way before. Well done you!

  8. What a collage of images, Jo – so many of them! It’s a great background and it’s lovely that you were able to use a dictionary you had as a child… I often use my out of date French and Spanish dictionaries – and others – and love using those. Great variety in your spread.

The bacon butty made me drool. We have gone vegan for three weeks and a bacon butty is one of those things that make you change your mind, lol.
