It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, so for the next two weeks our challenge is Powder your …
We are asking that you use powders on your creations; these could be Embossing, Mica, Infusions, Perfect Pearls, Brusho, paint powder or even just images of powders. Please remember to note on your post what ‘powder’ you have used.
There are some amazing creations from my Design Teamies too, please pop over to our blog to check them out. I can’t wait to see how you use powders on your creations too!
I had so much fun using both Brusho and embossing powders to create all the elements on my industrial style art journal page.
I started by using a new technique for the background by stamping a steampunk stamp from Docrafts onto my page using a Versamark Watermark stamp pad. Then I sprinkled Sandstone, Dark Brown, Terracotta and Yellow Ochre Colourcraft Brusho Powders onto the page and used a soft paintbrush to lightly brush the powder over the stamping so the Watermark ink was covered with the Brusho powders.
I then spritzed the page lightly with water a few times and watched the background colours burst to life until the stamping was defined but not totally lost by adding too much water – such a fun technique!
The light bulbs and cogs/gears are Boozybear chipboard pieces which I covered using the Versamark Watermark ink and then some Gold Shellac and Black Papermania embossing powder. I heated the pieces with my heat gun until the embossing powder melted and became glossy and dimensional. For the light bulb backgrounds, I added some Yellow and Yellow Ochre Brusho Powders to a sheet of white paper and spritzed with water. When dry I drew around the light bulbs shapes and cut these shapes out of the paper.
I stuck the yellow backgrounds behind each of the embossed light bulbs using a Zig Memory System glue pen and stuck them and the cogs onto the page using glossy accents. The panel of words is a Tim Holtz Pocket card which I edged using the Versamark ink and embossing powders; it reads “Creativity is seeing things everyone else has seen, and thinking what no one else has ever thought”. I also covered three metal brads with the Gold Shellac and Black embossing powders and added them to the panel to give it more of an industrial look, which finished the page.
As T Stands for Tuesday and to continue the industrial look of my page I’m sharing a photo of me and hubby at the Banded Brewing Tap Room in Biddeford, Maine when we were on holiday last year – Happy T Day!
We had the “Flight of 4 Tasters” and the beers we tried were Oktoberfest, Veridian, Wheat ‘N’ Potatoes and Greenwarden – cheers!

I’m pleased to be able to join the lovely Rike from rike’s art and her The Colour Yellow challenge over at Art Journal Journey with my yellow lightbulbs.

It seems that Brushos are the powder of choice for most people, although I have never seen them in my craft stores. I was surprised to read you used water after using VersaMark. I loved the background, though, and was really impressed that you added embossing powder to your Brushos.
I was also impressed with how you treated the light bulbs and their yellow backing. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey. It’s also a fabulous TioT entry.
I would have chosen the stout, but I know you and your husband like to experiment when it comes to beer. Pardon my ignorance, but what is IPA? Thanks for sharing your incredible journal page and your beer with us for T this Tuesday.

Thanks very much! IPA stands for India Pale Ale, it is normally a strong and heavily hopped pale beer and originally it was created to withstand the rigours of the journey from the England to India in the 1800s. These days the US is well known for it’s strong and hoppy IPAs as American hops lend itself to his type of beer. Happy T Day! J 😊 x

Its a lovely photo of you and your husband and it seems an interesting scene behind you , am I right in thinking this was where the actual brewing took place.?
Happy T day wishes Jo.

Thanks so much! Yes you are right they make the beer in the metal vessels behind us 😁. It’s funny, America doesn’t tend to have many pubs like we do, you actually go to the actual brewery which has a tap room or bar attached to have a pint of beer instead. It’s such fun to see where they make it though and also sample the beer! Happy T Day! J 😊 x

I’m not into beers, but my son-in-law enjoys those tastings here. “Powders” isn’t a thing I was much aware of, so I’m getting quite the education this week. Thx!

Jo, this may be my favorite page of yours ever!
I love everything about it: the embossed chipboard retro light bulbs, the subtle Brusho background and the Einstein quote, which also links to Edison and how he saw the world (with electrical lighting – grin). How you “lit” the light bulbs is very realistic and sheer genius. Awesome page!
The photo of you at the tap room in Maine looks very much like our micro-brewery here in rural Mexico. I really need to share some pictures from the Brew House. But first, I need to take some (grin).
Happy T-day! Eileen xx

This is wonderfully innovative art, Jo, I don’t know much about powders but Versamark stamping, brushing the Brushos and spraying with water seems fairly clever to me and gives a great result too. I really enjoy seeing your products and processes and learning new (to me) techniques. Your finished art is so unusual too, I really like it.

That quote is awesome Jo and those little Boozey Bear elements are terrific I love their shape. That yellow brusho page adds the perfect shade to shine through them all. Fabulously themed.
As you may have guessed i’m playing TioT catch up with the ladies before the next challenge starts, the last two weeks have left me a little stretched for time but i’m getting there slowly.
