Tea & Biscuit Club Arundel

Today we are celebrating a shop in Arundel called The Tea & Biscuit Club which we visited last month when staying with family. We have been enjoying some “Christmas Pudding” tea that we bought to enjoy over the winter season so I decided to create this art journal page to capture our happy memories!

I started by covering the page with some Parchment Liquitex acrylic paint and as we visited Arundel during winter, I choose some fir tree and berry branches to decorate the background. These were from a Branches stamp set by Inkadinkadoo and I stamped them using Cottage Ivy and Toffee Crunch Memento Ink and also Peeled Paint Distress Ink. I added the large round shop logo to the page, which was recycled from the paper bag that we received when we purchased our tea. Then I arranged some pretty flowers and tags which are Anthology Collectable die cuts from Kaisercraft; the flowers look similar to the flowers from the tea plant. I also added some stars and a square winter scene from a decoupage set as we visited the shop at winter time; they are all edged with a Dark Sepia Faber-Castell Big Brush marker and stuck in place using double-sided tape.

The Tea and Biscuit Club is a speciality tea shop in Arundel which is located on the High Street.

It is very welcoming and sells many teas and accessories.

It has teas from around the world with over 60 blends of black, green, white, herbal and fruit infusions. They blend the tea themselves and you can choose which tea you want from the jars they have on the counter – they all smell delicious!

We wanted a tea to drink over Christmas and during the winter month with cinnamon and orange flavours, so we chose their “Christmas Pudding” tea. This is a Christmas spiced black tea with a zesty fruit infusion creating a very festive aromatic blend – it tastes yummy!

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing my drink related page and photos and wishing you all a very Happy T Day!

By the way, the “biscuit” referred to in the shop name is a British biscuit and is similar to an American cookie.  In case you are wondering, the term “biscuit” can be applied to two different products:

  • In the UK, a biscuit is typically hard, flat and unleavened, it is crunchy and may be topped with chocolate or have currants in it and is often served with a hot drink like tea, in fact you often dunk a biscuit in your cup of tea.
  • In the US, however, a biscuit is typically a soft, leavened savoury quick bread, a bit like a British scone (in texture) and might be served with bacon and eggs on it or smothered in gravy and you tend to have it for breakfast.

So in summary, a British biscuit is an American cookie and an American biscuit is a British scone and the American scone is something else entirely (grin!).

Challenges

I’m glad I found out about Challenge Blogs as I enjoy taking part, they provide me with inspiration for my pages and are a wonderful way to meet like-minded arty people. So here are the challenges I’m joining today:

I’m pleased to join the lovely Alison/Craftytrog and her Geometric Shapes challenge over at Art Journal Journey with the circular, square and star shapes that I included on my page.

As this page captures the winter season, I’m joining the Cold and Frosty Colours challenge over at Moo Mania & More.

I’m happy to join the Put Your Stamp On It challenge over at A Vintage Journey as I was inspired by happy memories of this tea shop in Arundel to create my Art Journaling Style page; this included using some stamps.

To create this page I recycled the label from the paper bag that we received when we purchased our tea, so I’m pleased to join the Recycle Something challenge over at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge too.

I’m also joining the lovely Wen and her Simply Neutrals Tuesday party over at Apple Apricot with my neutral coloured page.

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Here is a list of all the materials used to create this art journal page:

  1. Oh I want to go to The Tea and Biscuit Club!! I can only imagine walking through the door…..the smells and all beautiful tea pots OH MY!
The tea you bought sounds very inviting…..and I’m a coffee person! But there are occasion that a delicious flavored tea tastes good. Like today, the wind has blow bitter cold all day with intermittent showers. We won’t get snow here in the valley but the mountains are getting it pretty good……so far the south exit, of the valley, is closed due to wind and snow! Your tea would just hit the spot this afternoon!
    Happy T-day

    • It was like an Aladdin’s cave, so much to see and so many teas to choose from …lol 😉. It’s quite a way from us, we use to live near by but now it’s at least a 5-6 hour drive so we only go there when we visit our family so it’s a special treat. We can order tea online though or become a member of their club – you get three speciality teas for £10 a month. Wishing you a very happy T Day! J 😊 x

  2. Your Christmas pudding tea sounds like a great l winter drink. You made a fabulous page to celebrate such nice warm winter drink. And that tea shop also has some fabulous looking teapots. It would be hard to pick a color if one wanted to buy one. I knew a biscuit was like a cookie but I didn’t know about British scones and American biscuits. I think your scones must be tastier than ours, which tend to be hard and dry. As you most likely know. (smile). Hope all is well and you are keeping warm with cups of your warm tea. Happy T day Jo. 3. Your Christmas pudding tea reminds me of the teas I get at Spice Merchant. One is called Noel Christmas tea and the other is Holiday tea. I was really impressed with the Tea and Biscuit Club and was really in love with some of those tea pots. It was a beautiful place and I loved your analogy of American and British biscuits. Personally, I don’t think scones I’ve made taste anything like a biscuit, but I can see if someone has never had a scone, how it would make a good comparison. Thanks for sharing the Tea and Biscuit Club with us for T this Tuesday.

And then there’s your incredible art. I followed along with great admiration. I was especially impressed with the fir and berry branches, but the flowers were lovely, too. Thanks for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey, too.

  5. Oh I would lose myself in that shop! Absolutely wonderful! And you made a lovely page to remember them by.
Your Christmas tea sounds yummy. I like spicy tea. I like a particulat type of spicy chai that Tesco used to sell a few years back and I have never found anything that tasted quite like it.
It’s good that you provided the ultimate English/American biscuit definition. Having blogged for a long time I now know the difference (and I have visited the USA). You have it spot-on.
    Wishing you a happy T-Day,
    Lisca

  6. To start with the page I can tell you that those wintery colours and the pretty layout and all the perfect fitting details make it an eyecatcher! You must send them this page per email! They will love this layout! A lovely shop..my gosh and it must smell there like heaven!
And thank you for explaining new to me facts about the differences…
Here we call “biscuit” a very fluffy dough used to make rolls or cakes and never a cookie is called biscuit. We call cookies “Kekse” or “Plätzchen”. But I think all those differences in languages are minor matter , just important is it tastes all yummie…lol!
I can imagine how this festive blend of “Christmas Pudding” tea tastes! I got organic “Santa Claus” tea that included the similar ingrediants and this was just fantastic.
Thank you very much for a fantastic page linked to Moo Mania & More and Art Journal Joureny dear Jo! Happy T-Day and rest of the week for you!
Another big amount of snow here last night … so hot tea is always a good choice!
    Big hugs, Susi

    • Thanks very much dear Susi! It was a wonderful shop, so many different types of tea, all of which were very tempting …lol 😉. Your organic Santa Claus tea sounds amazing, it’s so nice to capture the season in a cup of tea 😁. It’s been cold here with some lovely sunshine, no snow though although it has been quite grey here today. Happy T Day! Big hugs, J 😊 x

  8. You should show your page to the Tea and Biscuit Club. That would make fabulous paper for shopping bags, labels for the company. I would love to poke around in that shop and sniff all the tea. The teapot display is so cheery with all the bright colors. Your Christmas Pudding tea sounds a little like Bigelow’s Constant Comment. And whether you call it a biscuit, cookie, scone, or something entirely different, they are all delicious. Happy T Day!

  9. Well, today’s post is right up my alley! I love your feminine and elegant journal page celebrating your gorgeous tea shop. Wow! What a treat to have a shop nearby. It is probably a good thing we have nothing like that otherwise my hubby would wonder where all the money is going. Your Christmas Pudding tea sounds delicious. Cinnamon and orange are a wonderful combination for the holidays. And I love that I can see all the colors from your photograph. I am off to have a look at the shop. Thank you for sharing the link.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate
