Thankful

It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday and our theme for the next two weeks is Thankful.

This could be a thank you card, harvest festival, Thanksgiving or anything that you are thankful for. For more inspiration please take a look at the amazing creations from my Design Team teamies over at Try it on Tuesday.

I’m so thankful to have spent time with our forever friends in Maine and this page was inspired by the beautiful autumnal displays, flowers and birds that I saw in my friend’s garden/yard celebrating Fall and giving thanks to the season – I hope you like it!

To create the background, I stamped most of the stamps from the Bella Rossi stamp set by Prima Marketing onto the page using Hickory Smoke Distress Ink, a script stamp by Kaisercraft using black Archival Ink and a leaf stamp from Crafter’s Companion using Antique Linen, Old Paper and Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I splattered the page with Morocco Memento Ink, by stamping the pad directly onto an acrylic block and using a wet paintbrush to flick the ink onto the page. To dull down the Vintage Photo leaves that I had stamped I covered them with white gesso using a wet wipe blending the colour across the page so it gave it an aged look. I used some washi tape that I had bought on my holiday, for the letters; it had the word “thankful” repeated on it so I cut and placed the individual letters onto the page, which finished the background. Next I cut out two pumpkins from some pumpkin beer packaging that I brought home with me and stuck them in place using a glue stick. They are arranged and layered with some square autumnal images which I cut from a sheet of Autumn design paper by Graphic 45 and also some autumnal leaves and pretty birds which are from a decoupage set by Docrafts. All the pieces are edged with a Dark Sepia Faber-Castell Big Brush marker and stuck in place using either double-sided tape or double-sided foam tape. To finish, I curled the leaves to give more of a 3-D look.

Here is the beautiful Fall welcome that greeted us at my friend’s house (grin!).

There were two pumpkins so I used two on my page.

Their garden/yard is filled with wonderful ornaments, flowers and happiness; this area housed bird feeders and bird boxes and could be seen from the kitchen window …

…which meant we saw some amazing birds; this included black-capped chickadees like the one above, tufted titmouse, yellow-bellied sapsuckers and white-breasted nuthatches. So of course I added birds to my page (grin!).

The yellow flowers and fall colours in their garden were also spectacular so these are included on my page too – Happy Autumn!

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing the fridge full of beer including the pumpkin beer which was in the box that the pumpkins on my page were cut from. You can find them on the middle shelf and this particular pumpkin beer is from Smuttynose Brewery. We were most impressed that they had a beer fridge and as you can see we had quite a selection of beers to chose from – cheers and Happy T Day!

Challenges

I’m glad I found out about Challenge Blogs, like Try it on Tuesday, as I enjoy taking part, they provide me with inspiration for my pages and are a wonderful way to meet like-minded arty people. So here are the challenges I’m joining today:

I’m pleased to join the lovely Linda from heARTfullyinspiredby Linda, who is hosting the Creature Comforts challenge over at Art Journal Journey with the warm autumnal colours that I used to create this page.

Over at Moo Mania and More the theme is Autumn so I’m pleased to join their challenge with my Fall celebration page.

Inspired by my freind’s garden and fall displays, I’m also joining the Autumn Splendour challenge over at A Vintage Journey with my Art Journalling and Mixed Media Style page.

I’m joining Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and their Take Flight challenge with the birds on my art journal page, one of which has taken flight (grin!).

I’m pleased to be able to join the Plant-tastic challenge over at Country View Challenges with the autumnal flowers and leaves on my page.

The challenge over at Simon Says Stamp Work It Wednesday is Give Thanks! so I’m joining them too with my Thankful art journal page.

Over at Stamps and Stencils their challenge is Spooky Fun with an Autumnal Twist so I’m happy to join them with my autumnal page.

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. Gorgeous page Jo. I like the birds, pumpkins and fall leaves on your page. They make it feel like early fall and all the beauty that comes with it.. And I had to laugh at the beer fridge. We took the little fridge our daughter had in college and made it our beer fridge. (smile) It’s good not to fill up your food refrigerator. Hee-hee. Thankful is a wonderful theme. And I love seeing those photos. Happy T day. Hope all is well. Hugs-Erika

  3. Your page is beautiful Jo, your friends live in a gorgeous area-full of fall color-I love that they have a bit of woods along with the lake. They must get some deer visitors too. I am going to miss our woods for sure when we move to the lake-although I think there are woods behind us-so we will see allot of deer still.
    Happy T day hugs Kathy

  4. what a beautiful autumnal page Jo!! You have it filled with delight along with all the sights and colors of the season. Your friends’ home is so lovely- and I’m happy to say that we get those same birds in our backyard. Hmmm, I’m guessing you and hubby are now thinking of your own beer fridge:):) Happy T day! And thanks so much for your wonderful entries at AJJ!

    • Thank you Linda! It was a lovely page to create, I love autumn and we had such a wonderful time with our friends 😀. We don’t get any of these birds over here in the UK so it was lovely to see them all. As my hubby makes his own beer, we have a beer shed rather than a beer fridge, which looks quite impressive too …lol 😉. I really enjoyed your theme, thanks so much for being a fabulous host and I’m sorry I haven’t visited you as often as I would have liked, with my holiday I didn’t have as much time this month 😀. Happy T Day! J 😊 x

    • Thank you Yvonne! It’s fun creating pages that capture memories and it’s so nice that this page reminds me of my dear friends 😀. We have a beer shed rather than a fridge which contains all my hubby’s home-brewed beer; as we have a cooler climate here during autumn, winter and spring the beer stays cold enough to drink …lol 😉. Happy T Day wishes! J 😊 x

A beer fridge sounds like a great idea to me – my son has one of those and I always raid it 😉 Looks as if you had a wonderful time…what a treat!

    Gorgeous work, as ever.

    • Thanks so much! I always love to visit America this time of year as you celebrate this season so well with all the fall leaf garlands, pumpkins and autumnal treats – perfect 😁. I have managed to find only one café that does pumpkin syrup here, not to worry though as I bought two bottles on my return for my hot chocolates at home, so I’m still getting my pumpkin fix …lol 😉. Happy T Tuesday! J 😊 x

  10. Such a nice autumn page dear Jo, very well composed. Your friends live at a wonderful place near water and the house looks very inviting. A cosy place to live. The entry decoration looks very nice. Pumpkin beer sounds very interesting. We love grapefruit beer and cherry beer, in the summer very refreshing.
Wonderful photos you shared with us, thanks.

  11. I love it, Jo. The turning of the leaves in fall is one of the few things I miss about living up north (New Jersey and Wisconsin). Fond memories and fall pages like yours do me just fine 😉

Your friend’s house and yard in Maine are beautiful!! The beer fridge is pretty cool too.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  12. I’m sorry I’m late, but I think I overdid myself Sunday when I took a pseudo hayride out to a pumpkin patch and picked 10 gourds. I got overheated and didn’t realize it until I got home and showered to cool down.

You have definitely provided us with many thankful images in your lovely autumn inspired journal page, Jo. For me, those pumpkins really stole the show. They are perfect for Linda’s theme at Art Journal Journey, too.

I LOVED the idea of pumpkin beer and laughed at Smuttynose Brewery. It was a fantastic addition to T this Tuesday, too.

  14. Sorry I’m late again.
What a lovely autumnal page. I love the colours and I like that you give an explanation where your images come from.
I really enjoyed seeing the house and the garden where you visited your friends in Maine. Is there house on the water? How special is that.
A beer fridge. Now that is good. My brother in law has a wine fridge, but a beer fridge could be very useful too.
    Have a lovely belated T-Day,
    Lisca

  16. This is a marvellous page, Jo, and I liked it even more when I read below how it was inspired by your visit to your friends’ house. I’m impressed how you use bits from adverts and packaging (here the pumpkins). I’ve never done that but may have a go for a change. Love all the little birds on the page, and how wonderful for you to see these unusual birds on your holiday.
