Hello Spring!

With sunny days and warmer temperatures, it feels more like spring! My garden definitely looks more spring-like too with the beautiful daffodils and birdsong. So today I’m capturing those happy spring memories on my art journal page.

To start, I applied Mustard Seed Distress Ink concentrating the colour around the edges of the page; I did this by stamping the ink pad to an acrylic block and picking up the ink using a paint brush. Then I sprinkled some Leaf Green Colourfast Brusho powder onto the page and spritzed with water and watched the colours magically explode into life; I did this a few times until the intensity of colour I wanted was achieved. While the background was still wet, I used a stencil to apply Hickory Smoke Distress Ink using a blending tool and I stamped a daffodil tile stamp by Papermania using the Mustard Seed Distress Ink and also black Archival Ink, and also a small Flower & Dot stamp from Magenta using Teal Zeal Memento Ink; I really like the way the inks blended with the other background colours. I added a border of thin washi tape around the edge of the page and also around the wording “Hello Spring!” which I recycled from some junk mail. The pretty birds and daffodils are from a decoupage set which I fussy cut and stuck to the page using double-sided foam tape. The eggs are from an incomplete set of outline stickers from a charity shop (thrift store), which I stuck onto some textured recycled card and stuck to the page using a UHU Stic. To finish, I added some yellow bows which I made using recycled ribbon from a birthday gift.

Here are some of the beautiful daffodils flowering in our garden to welcome spring!

My pottery lamb stopped by to check them out too (grin!).

I’m glad I found out about Challenge Blogs as I enjoy taking part, they provide me with inspiration for my pages and are a wonderful way to meet like-minded arty people. So here are the challenges I’m joining today:

I’m pleased to join the lovely Alison/Craftytrog, who is hosting the Recycle and Collage challenge over at Art Journal Journey with the recycled junk mail, textured card and ribbon that I collaged onto this page!

With the stamping and pretty birds on my page, I’m pleased to join The Birds & the Bees challenge over at The Artistic Stamper.

I’m also pleased to join in the fun at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and their Trio of Something challenge with my pretty trio of decoupage bird images (if you look closely you will see the bird sitting on the flowerpot repeated three times on my page) and also my trio of eggs.

I’m also joining the Allsorts Challenge Blog and their New Beginnings challenge as my art journal page depicts the change in seasons, to welcome spring.

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

    • Thanks so much dear Susi! I like the background, it looks so clean and fresh unlike my first attempt that got gesso-ed as it looked so muddy …lol 😉. It may be fun to recycle the gesso-ed page for AJJ though. How lovely that your tulips are in bloom, I’m still waiting for mine as they are still in bud 😊. Let’s hope spring is here to stay! Wishing you a Happy Friday and Weekend! Hugs J 😊 x

    • Thanks very much! I like the fresh colours too and with the daffodils as inspiration it was a lovely page to create 😀. We have warmer weather and the sun keeps peeking our from behind the clouds today …lol 😉. We enjoyed our walk today too. Wishing you a Happy Friday and Weekend! J 😊 x

  3. Your page would make pretty wrapping paper. More nuisance snow on the way today, changing over to rain. The daffodils are a bit behind this year because of all the cold and snow. I’ll just enjoy your garden. Love the lambie.

    • Thanks very much! Sorry to here you have snow on the way, let’s hope it changes to spring where you are soon 😀. I always think daffodils are such cheery flowers and they seem to be out in force in our garden this year so I just had to create a page to remember them. Wishing you a Happy Friday and Weekend! J 😊 x

    • Thank you Erika! It is a happy page and reminds me of the sunshine too, along with April showers which is probably why the garden looks so green…lol 😉. Happy Friday and have a fantastic weekend too! J 😊 x

  5. Two things I took away from this post were the washi tape you used to frame both the entire page and the recycled junk mail and how perfectly the background came together. Most impressive. Thanks for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey. This is a perfect example of Alison’s theme.

Looks like your garden is doing great with the daffs, too. They are a beautiful inspiration for the journal page you created.

  6. Wow, such beautiful effort in your pages, and so many materials! I found you through Kathyinozarks blog comments, and am now totally inspired to do more than I’ve thus far been ableto do. Thank you for the inspiration, information, and specific recommendations. I’m not able to go back to what I always did (had hand surgery) but art journal making is easier and resonates with me. I just completed my cover and almost completed my first page. 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!!

  8. Wonderful colors Jo! I’ve been enjoying all your spring posts and pages lately – they inspire me and help me believe spring will come (snowed here again today). The bright cheery yellows and greens are certainly channeling the daffodils! Wonderful little images you’ve added too. Thanks so much for sharing with us at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! hugs, Maura

    • Thanks so much Maura! Creating spring pages makes me happy too and it was fun joining you Trio challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge 😁. I hope you didn’t get too much snow and that spring will be with you soon! Happy weekend! J 😊

  9. Daffodils have always been my favorite flowers. I have a whole strip of them along the side of my driveway. My neighbor told me that when those daffs start to bloom that’s when she knows that Spring has come! Your collage is cute and cheerful. But I don’t see the recycled ribbon you mentioned.
