I love Christmas and I find that December gives me the perfect excuse to create as many Christmassy journal pages as I can (grin!). I hope you like my latest creation.
I started by stamping snowflakes over the page using Dovecraft embossing ink which I covered with white Stampendous embossing powder. I shook the excess powder onto a piece of scrap paper and tapped the page against the table to make sure I had removed any stray powder. Once the excess powder was safely returned to its container, I used a heat gun to melt the embossing powder, sweeping the gun over the images, taking care not to direct the heat in one area for too long, until the embossing powder changed to a glossy finish becoming smooth and dimensional. Next I applied Chipped Sapphire, Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio Distress Inks using a blending tool starting at the top of the page with the darkest colour of Chipped Sapphire, and finishing with the lighter colour of Cracked Pistachio, at the bottom. As the white snowflakes were on a white page, it was fun seeing them stand out as I added more layers of the Distress Inks to intensify the colours. Then I used a wood mounted snowflake stamp which I wet with a baby wipe and pressed onto the page so that it reactivated the Distress Ink. On removing the stamp I used some kitchen paper to absorb the wet ink leaving a pretty snowflake impression on the page. I added some shiny silver snowflakes to the centre of each impression which are from a Relief Sticker Set by Crelando and also some large 3D silver snowflakes which are wall stickers. Then I used some outline stickers to add the silver stars and dots for some extra detail and shine. The snowman is fussy cut from an old Christmas card and stuck to the page using a UHU Stic. To create the ground I used the negative image surround from the outline stickers, ripping it to fit the page. To finish, I added the “Let It Snow” wording which is a foam sticker from a Christmas craft pack and some white dots using a Uni Posca paint pen.
Living by the sea, we don’t usually have much snow, although snow is forecast for this weekend (grin!). This had me reminiscing about some heavy snowfall (for the UK) that we had for about a week when we lived in the South of England. I found these pictures to share with you.
Our garden was like a winter wonderland with all the snow …
… and the snow-covered trees looked so beautiful too!
Challenges
I’m glad I found out about Challenge Blogs as I enjoy taking part, they provide me with inspiration for my pages and are a wonderful way to meet like-minded arty people. So here are the challenges I’m joining today:
I’m pleased to join the lovely Sheila from Orange Esmeralda who is hosting the “Let’s Celebrate” challenge over at Art Journal Journey with my snowy celebration.
Over at Try it on Tuesday they have a “Twinkle, Twinkle” challenge where you are asked to include stars, sparkles, glitter and shiny things.
I’m also pleased to join Moo Mania & More for their “Get the heat on – (Heat Embossing)” challenge as I included the heat embossed snowflakes on my page.
I’m pleased to be able to join the “Winter Wonderland” challenge over at A Vintage Journey with my “Mixed Media” style page. I was inspired by the description provided to their Creative Guides of “Let’s see some snow, snowmen …” so I included both of these in my design.
The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is “Icy Inspiration” so I drew inspiration from the dark blue colour, snowman and snowy pictures on the mood board provided to create my journal page.
Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

We’re suppose to get snow this weekend too. I normally don’t get too excited about it but I am because I love snow at Christmas. Love your snow piece today. It sounds like you making and posting this is perfect timing for both us. 🙂 Enjoy a nice cup of tea or coco and maybe a couple of holiday cookies while the flakes come down. 🙂 Hugs-Erika

Thanks very much! We only had a very light dusting of snow this weekend, what about you? Other parts of England had snow though, some of our family (who live further south than us) had 10cm. Temperatures are cold though, so we wrapped up warm for our walks – brrrr 😁. I hope you have had a lovely weekend dear Susi and wishing you a happy new week! J 😊

I read every word of your description, scrolling up to compare each process with the picture and I think I followed most of it. I did understand cutting out a snowman from a Christmas card (haha!) and thought that was a good idea, it was a perfect finishing touch. It is a lovely frosty scene.
Like you I love December and Christmas, it’s a great time of Celebration, so thanks Jo for this super cool (!) work of art.
Do you think we will get as much snow this year as your great photographs show? It’s beautifully picturesque.
And thanks so much for your third entry for my theme at AJJ.

Thank you Sheila! I did try lots of different techniques to create all those snowflakes, didn’t I …lol 😉. We only had a very light dusting of snow in the end, other parts of the UK got much more though 😁. It’s lovely to join you at AJJ gain too – have a happy new week! J 😊

Oh, my, that “Let It Snow” page! I love everything about it! The method is not something I know anything about, but I love how it turned out. The color and depth and arrangement… So exuberant 🙂 We just don’t get much snow here, and we get much less now than when I was a child. Your art makes it feel like winter.

Fabulous snowy page Jo! Gorgeous colour blending and I love the idea of stamping with a stamp wetted with a baby wipe, never thought of that but will definitely give that a try soon!
Thanks for adding this page to A Vintage Journey! I wonder whether you saw that you were one of our pinworthy winners for the last challenge….
Oh and I love your snow photos too. We have not had decent snow for several years now, fingers crossed we’ll get some this year

Thank a lot! Blending the inks with the blending tool was fun and I learnt that I need to be bolder when I apply the inks as I had to add quite a few layers of ink to get the intensity of colour I wanted …lol 😉. It’s always a pleasure to join you at A Vintage Journey and I was thrilled about the Pinworthy, thank you! Fingers crossed for snow and wishing you a happy new week! J 😊

Your snowy page is fabulous. I still believe you put SO much into each of your journal pages, it makes me believe you spend hours and hours on each page. This is no different. It’s a gorgeous beauty and perfect for Art Journal Journey. Thanks for sharing it with us there.
I can’t BUY snow (or even rain) here. The ground is so dry. I love the photos of snow you shared from years gone by, and really enjoyed seeing how very different your homes in the UK are.
Again, thanks for sharing this beauty that represents Sheila’s theme at Art Journal Journey.

Your page would make an adorable Christmas card. I’m a Grinch when it comes to snow. I don’t like it. Don’t like the cold. We are getting our first storm of the season today. I don’t think quite as much as in your pictures. i hope not as Himself is having back problems so shoveling will fall to me! Enjoy your snow while I whine (whinge) about mine. =^,.^=

I love how creative you are with your supplies, not wasting anything, just like me! The layers of snowflakes in different medias and sizes are beautiful!
Was that in 2010, I wonder… but I do remember (I live in the south too) that period where we were all stuck because of the snow and how beautiful it looked!
P.S Thank you so much for your lovely comment on my blog. xx

Ok, Jo, it must be my eyes or my computer. I see photos of your wonderful snow, but no photo of your journal page. Since everyone is leaving a comment like they saw it, I’m going to assume it’s something wrong I my end. Anyway, for now, I see your thumbnail at A Vintage Journey, and I want to thank you for playing along. Your description of how it all came together sounds brilliant, and I enjoyed reading about your process.I will check back to see if something shows here. Sending hugs!
