Peace, Love and Kindness

I started creating this page to join in with Rosie’s fabulous “Circles” theme over at Art Journal Journey and it turned into a wish for Peace, Love and Kindness.

I cut a couple of pages in half from a Pear’s Cyclopaedia book and stuck them to the page using a UHU Stic. Then I added some green dotty washi tape to the parts of my page where there was no text ripping the tape to soften its edges. I then covered the page with a thin layer of white gesso and used the small and large circles from a Dutch Doobadoo Mask to apply Hickory Smoke, Tea Dye and Black Soot Distress Ink with a blending tool. In the centre of the larger circles, I stenciled smaller circles using the black Distress Ink and covered them with a very thin layer of Lime, Margarita Mix and Mango Faber-Castell Gelatos. I used a baby wipe to blend the Gelato which removed some of the Distress Ink to give the grungy look that I wanted. I then added another layer of Gelato to these circles to intensify the colour which I blended using my finger. I used the circle mask again to stencil white gesso around the edges of the large circles using a sponge.  Next I cut different sized circles from green metallic craft papers using a circle cutter, I edged them with a black Sharpie permanent marker and stuck them to the page using a UHU Stic. I added some enamel dots and also some gold Glitterations circle frame stickers which I filled with Glitterations flowers. I then stamped the words using black Archival Ink and used the same ink to stamp the black dots masking the other circles as needed. I doodled more details onto the circles and dots using a white Uni-Posca pen, a black Dewent Inktense pencil and a black Uni Pin marker. To finish I stamped a heart and added a bee to signify the Manchester Worker Bee emblem – I ♥ MCR & I ♥ LDN.

Creating this page allowed me to play with two new craft goodies, a circle cutter which makes short work of cutting different sized circles and some wonderfully vibrant Faber-Castell Gelatos. The Gelatos are very easy to use and I’d like to thank Eileen for highlighting them on her post a few weeks ago, as you can see they didn’t stay on my “wish list” for long (grin!).

As T Stands for Tuesday, I am sharing my usual cup of green tea and to continue the circle theme my picture shows my tea with a huge round chocolate chip cookie that my hubby treated me to from the bakery whilst we were out food shopping (grin!). I’m saying a special thank you to Valerie for making those lovely cookies last week, I showed my hubby and he made it his mission to find one for me (grin again!). And in case you are wondering – yes I did eat this cookie all myself, it was so yummy!

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. Your AJJ entry is fabulous. I feel so sorry for your country right now. Seems you have been hard hit in both places. I worry because I have SO many internet friends who live in the UK. I know their lives and yours have been touched in some way by these latest horrors to hit your island. Your AJJ entry turns all that around with love.

I have a circle cutter that looks NOTHING like yours. Mine is hard to use and even harder to set. I haven’t used it in years. It’s by Fiskars. I’m glad you found yours was easy to use. It looks a LOT easier to set the size at least. I’ve always wanted some of those gelatos. One of these days, maybe, but right now I have enough beautiful things to make marks on a page.

Your cookie looks SO good. And I would be surprised if you weren’t drinking your green tea (or beer, of course). Thanks for sharing your lovely AJJ entry, along with your green tea and chocolate chip cookie with us for T this Tuesday. I think your husband is a keeper!

    • What a lovely thing to say, thank you! My circle cutter is just a cheap one, it was £2 from The Works so I thought I would give it a try and then get myself a better quality one if I liked it. I’ve seen the Fiskars one and thought it looked really complicated 😀. The Gelatos are lovely and I’m still learning how to use them with a bit of trial and error … lol 😉. Thanks again and wishing you a Happy T Day! J 😊

  3. Your circle page is fantastic Jo! I love the circles and all the green on your page. Those are 2 of my favorite page making choices. I’ve only used gelatoes once, and want to hear what you think of them. And your cookie is very round and very delicious looking. I hope it tasted as good as it looks. happy T day. Hugs-Erika

    • Thank you Erica! I’m new to using Gelatos and have been experimenting with techniques, I think the main thing is to prep your page with gesso or gel medium before you apply them so they are easier to blend. I’m creating a page at the moment using Gelatos to colour the whole page background which I’ll share soon, it includes more Gelato techniques 😁. Wishing you a Happy T Day! J 😊

that’s what your wonderful page looks like to me!
    Breathtaking!
I want to say a VERY BIG thank you that you made it dedicated to Art Journal Journey!
This new goodies are super! I have such an circle cutter, but I think it is not of that high quality like your one! I don’t use it often, since I most of the time just eyeball my circles… I am lazy, I know.
This vibrant Gelatos are AMAZING!!! WOW!
And even your chocolate chip cookie fits the circles theme, lol!
I love chocolate chip cookies !

    • Thanks so much dear Susi! My circle cutter was only a cheap one, £2 from The Works, it’s not high quality because I wanted to try it out to see if I liked it and identify how often I would use it too, before I committed to buying a higher quality one 😀. The new AJJ theme gave me the ideal opportunity to try it which is great (grin!). I smiled when I added the cookie for T Day and then realised it was a circle shape too (grin again!). Wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊

  8. This is such a fun and bright page. those circles are amazing! That is so neat that you did all that with gelatos. I am going to have to dig mine out and give this a try when I have some extra time. (Haha) there is usually no extra time but a girl can dream. Anyway, love your page and that cookie looks yummy with your green tea. 🙂

  9. Wow, that is a beautiful journal page. Gosh, we used to have a Pear’s Encyclopedia at home (the one with the little girl on it). I remember it well.
Gelatos, such lovely colours. Almost good enough to eat! I had bought them too, but I confess I haven’t used them much. I went to Eileen’s link but couldn’t find anything about gelatos….
Yum, a lovely cookie. I shouldn’t be looking at images like that at this time (nearly tea time). It’s making my mouth water.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,

    • Many thanks Lisca! I bought the Cyclopedia from a charity book stall with the intention to use it for journalling 😀. The Gelatos are wonderfully creamy and vibrant, I’m still learning how to use them and will be showing more techniques soon. I’ll find the exact link and update my post too, hope it helps 😁. The cookie sure was yummy, wishing you a Happy T Day! J 😊

  10. Love this page! The colours are so vibrant and I love the addition of the bee! You have made me realise that the Pears Cyclopaedia is what I use when I say dictionary pages – lovely thin pages that take ink etc beautifully! The cookie looks so good! Happy T day Chrisx

  11. Great art page and that cookie looks super yummy. I’m down with my back again and had to have and emergency injection yesterday morning . Which is why I didn’t post for “T” day. It hit me Monday afternoon like a building fell on me. Feeling much better today but still taking it super easy.

  12. It’s a lovely page, Jo. Kindness is so important. Adding the bee – very touching.
Gelatos!!! – these look marvellous, I’ve seen them before and thought how good they look. I wonder how they compare with oil pastels, or if they paint like anything else. That looks like a good set you bought.
I like your circular biscuit too, that’s fun (and delicious).

    • Thanks so much, the messages are so important and I’m glad that I created this page in memory! The Gelatos are wonderful and I’ve had so much interest and fun experimenting that I put together another post featuring them. I’ve just posted it and shows some different techniques using them including that they paint like watercolour … lol 😁. The cookie was so good that I had another today … very naughty, I know 😉. Enjoy your week! J 😊
