Tea Time

When we are at home we always have elevenses, which means it’s time for green tea and a homemade cake. My page today is inspired by this, as well as the T Stands For Tuesday blog challenge hosted by Bleubeard & Elizabeth. A big hello to all of the T-Gang! I apologise for the lateness in my post – Tuesday just didn’t work out as I planned! Hope you like this page.

Tea Time - Art Journal Page

I stenciled cog wheels using white gesso and let it dry completely, I then dripped and dabbed diluted Faber-Castell Big Brush markers over the page, gradually building up the layers of colour. To define the wheels more I doodled around them with a fine line Uni Pin marker. Liquitex Matte Gel Medium was used to fix the pieces of torn decoupage paper and I added white gesso using my finger to blend it into the background more. I covered some cardboard alphabet stickers with copper leaf using Gold Size and stuck any remaining copper leaf randomly onto the page. Next I started creating the steam rising up my page using transfers, gem stones and clock stickers which I coloured black (you may notice the steam has lifted the numbers of the clock faces as they are swirling up the page). The three teabags, which I dried and emptied, are stuck down using UHU Stic. I stamped words onto them using Archival Ink, added star stickers and a stitch effect around the outside using a black marker. I used some cup images from a leaflet, which I distressed with inks and a baby wipe. I finished by outlining the images and words with a black marker.

    • Thank you so much Valerie! I’ve never stamped on teabags before but I seem to remember Patty mentioning it once so thought I’d give it a go – it was so easy to do! Those carrot cakes are so good :-). Happy belated T Day! J 🙂

  2. Its a fabulous Tea page, a great way to use the tea bags, mine usually end up as mulch in the garden.. Your elevenses look delicious, just finished our meal, but if they were in my cupboard, I think they would go down well with my coffee..
    Happy Wednesday.

  3. I have a question. Did you save me some carrot cake with genuine cream cheese frosting? Right now I’m drooling.

I was so impressed with all you put into this layout. From the stenciled cogs to the inked wheels to the stamped tea bags, this is a spread you can be extremely proud of. Sorry I was so late seeing this.

Thanks for sharing this incredibly detailed spread and your tea and carrot cake with us for T this Wednesday. Better late than never is my motto!

    • Well I do have some cakes left so if you want to pop over you are most welcome to one or two :-). I was going to save the page until next week and then thought I can make time to post Wednesday, so pleased you like it :-). I saved the teabags some time ago and when I saw them immediately thought of T Stands for Tuesday. It was really fun pulling the elements together. Thanks so much for your kind comments. Wishing you a very happy week! J 🙂

    • Thanks a lot! What a great idea to laminate a copy of your art work for mats, brilliant! The mugs, plate and rest of our dinner service are so precious to us as they were wedding presents. They are made in England by Denby who have been making pottery for over 200 years. We love them and use them everyday! Thanks again and wishing you a Happy belated T Day! J 🙂

    • Thanks Yvonne! Sorry I think your missing comment was me, I didn’t get round to mediate my comments until this morning so I think that’s why your comment seemed to dissappear, many apologies! I hope to be stopping by at AJJ again with another garden piece soon, your theme seems to be very popular and inspirational for everyone this month! Thanks so much for your kind comments and stopping by again. Wishing you a great week! J 🙂

Your tea collage is fabulous. The way you layer and combine is a marvel.
Your stamping on the tea bags is so perfect they look printed!
The tea bag paper is really much too nice to waste isn’t it.
Super how everything seems to flow toward tea.
Happy that you joined in. Happy T Day oxo

    • Thank you Patty! Those cupcakes were so good. I loved using the teabags, thank you for the inspiration as I got the idea from one of your blogs and thought I would give it a try. I have to say that I was surprised how easily it was to stamp on them. You are right tea bag paper is too nice to waste, I really like their texture and staining, lovely! I think I may have quite a few in my craft stash by the end of the Summer as they dry really well in the heat! Hope you are finding the temperature a bit more bearable today, sending you cool and happy wishes! J 🙂

  7. This is a lovely art journal page Jo. I especially like the clever use of the tea bags. PS – now I am craving a bit of coffee (rather than tea) and cupcakes. 😉
