When I think of Daisies they make me smile, with their heads raised skywards they dance in the sun, their soft delicate white petal dresses gleaming so beautifully in the light.
I planted a perennial Daisy (Leucanthemum) in my garden this year and this journal page celebrates my first flower! I’m pleased to be able to join Yvonne again who is hosting the theme “In my garden there is” over at Art Journal Journey.
The background is covered in random patches of diluted Spectum Aqua markers, I choose olive and peach to give a soft ethereal feel to the page. I then stamped the script using black Archival Ink and added three horizontal lines of washi tape. I painted White Gesso over this background in square blocks gradually blending the edges so they fade out, I love how this has made the page translucent in certain areas. I used a rubber stamp from Eco Green Crafts (made with recycled rubber) using a charcoal Spectrum Aqua marker to stamp the daisies. The images are stickers from Penny Black and I applied a thick line of the charcoal Aqua marker to add more dimension. I then stamped two postage marks and La Fleur wording over and around the stickers. I like how these match the French theme I was trying to achieve. To establish where to position these stamps I stamped them onto tissue paper first, which allowed me to move them around the page until I was happy with the look. The two postage stamps are also French, if you look closely you will see the beautiful images of women with flowers in their hair. To finish I added the lace trim at the top and bottom of the page. I hope (like me) you think this page turned out beautifully!
Here is my first Daisy, I have counted a further 21 buds, it’s really exciting to check each day to see how the plant grows and blooms.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

A beautiful journal page to celebrate your first of the season daisy flowers. They are such pretty flowers.
Did you ever make daisy chains with the wild ones, when you were young. I remember showing the kids at school, one year, they were a huge summer success.
Enjoy seeing your daisies flourish.

We call them Shasta Daisies here and I have a huge one that I love. In fact I have recently decided to buy a couple of more for the flowerbed directly in front of the house 🙂 Your art is great. I love the way you have blended the colors for the background.

I love daisies too. Your page to celebrate them is wonderful. I like how you added postmarks (don’t you love postmarks?) It feels very French to me. 🙂 Hugs-Erika

Wonderful page – I like those Penny Black stickers so much and you brought them into great beauty! I bought a daisy bush a few weeks ago – they bloomed great -but now they have gone.
I hope that next year they will return again and bring me beauty again in the flowerbed.
So exciting when the things start to bloom! Thank you for sharing!
Happy weekend Jo!
Thank you so much for another fabulous entry to the garden month at Art Journal Journey!

I had NO idea what Spectrum Aqua Markers were, so went to the internet to find out about them. Looks like they make a great background as well as great art markers, too. Your use of them for this page certainly made it special, but those wonderful “vintage” postage stamps were the icing on the cake. This is a wonderful page with a great French flair.

Thanks so much! Spectrum Aqua markers are great to use and very versatile, as you have found out they can be used as markers, or you can dilute them and use as watercolour or even apply them to the page and then add water with a paint brush and pull the colour out onto the page. The thing you should never do is actually put the tip of the marker into water, it ruins them apparently. Yes the postage stamps are from my hubby’s stamp collection, when I use them it really does makes the page so special. Thanks again and wising you a happy week ahead! J 🙂

Stamping on tissue paper first to decide on a layout – how clever is that, what a great tip. I do like the way you have used the washi tape, it is difficult to not make it look just like a strip of washi tape. The squares and rectangles and the blended background make a super daisy piece. I am now going right out to check if my Leucanthemum plant is flowering yet.

Thanks so much! Yes I know what you mean I was trying to avoid straight lines, and blending the washi tape with gesso or paint seems to push it back into the background more. Wishing you a happy weekend and I hope you plant is flowering, enjoy! J 🙂

I think this turned out to be an awesome piece of artwork. It is stunning. I love everything about it. The colors are beautiful. And the way you used the white Gesso is grand. I bet it is lots prettier up close than on the computer screen. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring me to try a little bit harder. Your work is beautiful. genie

That is very kind of you, thanks very much Genie! I’m pretty new to using Gesso, it scares me a bit as I think it will cover everything up. In this case I applied it only in certain areas and I was impressed with the results so will definitely be giving it another try :-). Wishing you a happy weekend! J 🙂
