My page was inspired by my love of orange blossom and citrus fragrance. My inspiration was two-fold, firstly the mock-orange shrub in our front garden which is currently flowering and smells divine and secondly the grapefruit and orange cosmetic products made by Manufaktura in Prague, Czech Republic which I purchased when I was there last and have sadly, just finished.
For the background I layered different colours using a hessian texture and a triangle stamp with both Memento Ink and Spectrum Aqua Markers. I recycled the Manufaktura product labels and paper bag, on which I drew the leaves and cut them out, sticking them onto the page using Liquitex matte gel medium. I used a UHU Stic to adhere the letters which I had stamped onto tissue paper as well as the orange and grapefruit segments, which were originally gift tags. The flowers are actually the backing paper from flower stickers that I had kept hoping they would come in useful. The centres are rhinestone flower stickers and to finish I added some chequered ribbon and orange bows, which I made from the gift tag ribbon.
Because of my love of citrus scents, we planted a mock-orange (Philadelphus) in our front garden. It has wonderful sweet fragrance from its long-lasting white blooms. It’s named “mock-orange” because at first glance the flowers in the wild species look and smell similar to those of the real orange tree. This shrub flowers from late spring to early summer so we are currently enjoying both the beautiful blossoms and the lovely scent. I’m pleased to be able to join Yvonne aka Meggymay who is hosting the theme “In my garden there is” over at Art Journal Journey.
As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m saying a big hello to all at the T Gang! To continue the orange theme we cracked open a Hoegaarden – a Belgian wheat beer which is flavoured with orange peel and coriander seeds. I know this because my husband makes his own version and this bottle was bought for comparison reasons (I much prefer my husband’s home brewed version!) Happy T day!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Fantastic orange theme today Jo. Happy T day, one day late. I love your piece. Its got that retro kind of feel to it. Nice how you included labels too. It almost makes it a memory piece-or does make it one.Now you have to go back to the Chezh Republic and buy some more! 🙂 I’ve never heard of this plant, but it sounds like it smells great. Hope all has been good. Hugs-Erika

I LOVE the Mock Orange shrubs!!!!! My parents have a huge one in their side yard that is heavenly. I don’t know why I haven’t gotten a start from it before but that will be on my list to do at the next visit. In fact I shall call my dad today and have him see if he can pot up a start for me. He’ll love that 🙂 He always love sending me plants home.
Love your journal page today!!!!

I had no idea there were so many different plants known as “mock orange” lol Thanks to you I now know that the one I grew up with is just one of many. Yours is lovely with much larger flowers than what I’m familiar with. Thanks!

Before I forget to mention this, I want to thank you for the kind visits while I was offline. I was thrilled you stopped by even though I couldn’t return the favor. Your generous comments definitely didn’t go unnoticed.
Your mock orange is wonderful. Loved the way you used it in the “AJJ garden,” too. I’ve also been know to use sticker backing. You never know when it will come in handy.
From what I’ve been reading, your husband’s beer is better than the commercial variety. I’m glad to know that, because he sounds like quite the brew master. Thanks for sharing this lovely spread and your beer with us for T this week.

Thank you so much, you are too kind! I’m pleased to know that you use sticker backings too; I really can’t stand to throw things away especially when they look so pretty :-). Yes my husband is quite the brewer, he brews using the raw ingredients (grain, hops etc) and gives talks on brewing at our local beer festivals. So glad you are back online! J 🙂
